NAZRAN, Russia -- President Vladimir Putin urged Chechen rebels Monday to "halt all contacts with international terrorists" and gave them 72 hours to get in touch with Russian authorities for negotiations on disarmament.

Russia has claimed that the Chechen rebels receive support from Osama bin Laden, named by the Bush administration as the prime suspect in the Sept. 11 terror attacks in the United States, and Putin addressed the rebels in a speech devoted to Russia's response to the attacks.

"The events in Chechnya cannot be considered outside the context of the fight with international terrorism," Putin said.

Aha... the plot thickens.

No wonder Putin has seen the light and decided to come around to our way of thinking. We're about to pull the plug on the Chechen support system, and he's ready to capitalize on it. Our campaign might be what helps Russia pull a particulary nasty thorn out of her side.

Iraq's and Bin Laden's stupidity will hurt every affiliated or related group in the world. They both must be taking lessons from Arafat on stupidity.

I used to have some sympathy for the Chechen rebels.

That evaporated on September 11.

Chechen

It was an obvious quid pro quo.

Do you realize that we fought in Kuwait to save Muslim property and lives. We died in Samalia to save Muslim lives. We fought in Kosovo to give Muslims Serbian land. We used our influence to save Muslim lives in Checknya.

And for thanks we get 6,000 thousand of our people killed.

So we have just told Putin don't let the stench of burning Muslims soil your nose. That is the quid pro quo. Bin laden has made us an enemy. As we and the Russians kill Arabs for terrorist activities how can we tell Israel not to do the same.

Does anyone doubt that at the least provocation, Israel will kill a large number of Arabs to even the score? Does anyone expect that we will tell them not to do so?

Many many Muslims will die because of bin Laden.

It is pure madness to make war on an enemy you can not hope to defeat. It is pure madness to make an enemy of a nation that was bending your way. It is pure madness to take the restraints off two major enemies by making a third.

bin Laden and his followers will get more Arabs killed than have been killed in all of history.

Its clear that Bin Laden is a madman. He really thinks he is some sort of Islamic messiah, much like the Mahdi in the Sudan around the turn of the 20th century, come to arouse the entire world's moslem population to rise up in one, final holy war with the infidel.

"YOU let us work on these pukes in the mideast and use some of your old bases (give us the tech info on them too), and we will help you clean up YOUR two or three muslim problems, PLUS we will guarantee YOUR oil flow, AND work on getting you that warm water seaport you want... and Vlad, baby... Merry Christmas."

I actually like Putin, particularly after he dissed Albright with such finesse in front of the world press. It was wonderful to behold.

This is getting really, really interesting.

I also note that Mexico has been strangely silent, which indicates to me that something is afoot there as well.

I also note that Mexico has been strangely silent,

Nothing like 2000 miles of border with a country of questionable allegience to make people wonder.

Mine the Rio Grande Valley and buy out the Citrus farms and such there.

Is there something wrong with that? I mean, it works for me...

Good. Because it's really hard to try to claim that having to deal with the ibn Laden's and what not of the world is bad for us but good for other people. From all I've been able to read, the Chechen's are universally hated, even by other islamic states which surround them; their major industry appears to have been kidnapping people from surrounding states and torturing them until ransom money arrived. That would have to get old in a hurry for their neighbors, as would blowing up apartment buildings in neighboring states.

It is pure madness to make war on an enemy you can not hope to defeat.

And all the evidence to date shows that bin Laden is coldly, brutally sane.

So, what does he know that we don't?
