New Jersey Freepers, Libertarians, Second Amendment defenders -- a little known Hero died Sunday....
The following is the text of an Email I received yesterday from Murray Sabrin, national Vice Chairman of the Republican Liberty Caucus (1997 Libertarian Party Candidate for Governor of New Jersey; 2000 Republican primaries Candidate for the GOP nomination for US Senate, New Jersey):
My father died peacefully at age 87 on Sunday at 1:20pm in St. Peters hospital in New Brunswick. We visited him on Friday; he was lucid and wanted to go home. My younger brother asked him how he felt and he said, Cocky. That was his favorite expression when he did not feel well.
My older brother visited dad Sunday morning; dad was sleeping so Joe did not get a chance to talk with him. Two hours later dad apparently suffered a heart attack. The attending physician called me immediately. Joe and I went to the hospital at 3:00pm while our wives stayed with my mother. We kissed him good-bye. He looked so peaceful. We were with my mother for most of the rest of the day, planning the graveside service. She is doing well.
Thanks to everyone who sent their wishes and offered their prayers for dads speedy recovery. Dad is now with his family, all of whom died during the Holocaust, and his fellow partisans who were killed during the war or have died in recent years.
Dad was an unpretentious man, courageous, loyal, strong, caring, and smart. If I have any of these qualities, it is because I inherited them. If I have even a fraction of the courage he exhibited during his life, I will be blessed. There is more to say, but the hour is getting late.
Unfortunately, there is more sad news.
On Friday I received the following email about New York police detective John Perry, who I met several years ago at a speakers club, Junto, in New York.
John was filing retirement papers at police headquarters downtown when the first plane struck the World Trade Towers. He and the captain on duty rushed to the scene to help evacuate people. The building was dark, and John and the captain were leading people out by having them follow the sound of their voices. When the building began to collapse, the captain warned John to evacuate, but John insisted on staying as long as there were people still inside. The captain barely got out in time and saw John disappear into the dust as the building fell. John was a great humanitarian, a dedicated libertarian, and a rare human being. He will be missed. On Friday night George Clooney recounted Det. Perrys story to the national audience watching the telethon for the victims of September 11s massacre. All of America knows the heroism of John Perry, a libertarian police officer.
I learned from my sister-in-law today that two of my nephews friends in their late 20s were killed in the World Trade Center collapses. They both worked for Cantor Fitzgerald, which lost 700 employees in the September 11 disaster.
The last two weeks have been the most emotionally draining in my life, and I have never been this angry before. To help ease the pain I wrote an op-ed piece that I will submit to the Bergen Record Monday morning. I already notified the op-ed page editor. It is entitled, National defense begins with self-defense.
Murray
Below I have excerpted an Article from Murray Sabrin's 200 senatorial campaign website, "Why Gun Control Threatens Our Freedoms". It contains the most fitting tribute I can think of to the memory of Abraham Sabrin -- a brave man who survived and fought against Nazi evil, who worked 60 hour weeks in a factory as an immigrant to America to provide for his family without ever taking a dime of welfare, and raised his children to love Liberty and cherish their Right to Self Defense.
When people question why Murray is a strong defender of the Second Amendment, he tells them the story of his father during World War II.
Murray's parents were the only holocaust survivors of their respective families. Murray's father, Abraham, actually escaped from a Nazi labor camp and went on to become a partisan commander. Armed with a machine gun, he led 231 men and women in blowing up railroads and bridges and disrupting communications of the Nazi army.
Abraham, who celebrated his 85th birthday last year, survived the war because of his gun, and that gun is the reason Murray is on this earth today.
When the Nazis instituted gun registration in the 30's, nobody expected it to lead to confiscation, but confiscation is what soon followed. The Nazis murdered 6 million Jews who had no way of defending themselves because gun control took away their means of defense.
What the Nazis did was not new. History shows that gun registration is always a prelude to gun confiscation.
Our Founding Fathers knew that an armed public was a deterrent to a tyrannical government and firearms were a personal safety insurance policy. That is why the amendment to keep and bear arms was placed second and not tenth or eleventh.

Please title your Emails "Free Republic Remembers Abraham Sabrin" or something to that effect, so that Murray will know that these are not spam Emails. I would encourage any FReepers who have appreciated Murray's tireless defense of the Second Amendment, his uncompromising advocacy on behalf of the Pro-Life movement in New Jersey, and his uncompromising commitment to Liberty, to fire off a short Email to him expressing your condolences.
Thanks to all.
I'll send an email.
He surely is. Thanks for your kindness, I know that Murray will appreciate the good words.
Best, Uriel
Yeah, I know what you mean; I guess I'd just say that there never a bad time to praise a father for his heroism in life, and for having raised a good son -- even if only in memoriam.
I'll send an email.
Thanks, my friend.
...feel free to mention that in your Email, if you send one; like any warrior for a good cause, I expect that Murray will be most uplifted by the support and encouragement of his fellow-travelers.
