Giving peace a chance

About 150 demonstrators gathered Friday at the University of Pittsburgh to ask America to turn the other cheek.
Students from Pitt, Carnegie Mellon University and Chatham College formed a circle behind the Cathedral of Learning in Oakland and unfurled a 20-foot-square banner of a peace symbol.

The protesters expressed concern that the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11 against the World Trade Center and the Pentagon could lead to military reprisals against Afghanistan. They marched around the Cathedral of Learning and chanted slogans.
Among the anti-war cries was "Peace is more than the absence of war" and "One, two, three, four, we don't want your dirty war."
The protesters also toted cardboard signs that said, "Deploy food, not troops," and "Covert war is not justice."
Jennifer Miller, a freshman at Chatham College, expressed concern for fellow students from other countries.
"Our international students from Afghanistan and Pakistan are afraid for the lives of their families," said Miller, 19, of Franklintown, York County. "This is the best way to comfort them."

uh, these folks are what bin Laden would call "Useful idiots". I wish they would have been beat up. Or at least had their chic hippy clothes torn.

In looking at this, we got maybe 25 protestors and 125 people walking to and from class where the protest happened to be.

"Clearly," we should send all the anti-war protestors, along with loads of "aid," to the Taliban.
"Clearly," these protestors know what will work, and we should let them do it, over there.
Why, the Taliban will just be bowled over.
Oh, the humanity!
Just like the day the Taliban borrowed four jet airliners, and misread their navigation systems.
They surely intended to demand food and clothing for the people in need; just four airplane loads.
But of course, the INSENSITIVE air traffic controllers screwed up and OFFENDED the Taliban, who were thus enraged and couldn't see where they were going!
"Clearly."

When 6500 hundred of your fellow citizens are dead- and your first impulse, before any retribution has been meeted out to the killers- is to lauch a "peace protest" - then you are evil- pure and simple.

Clearly LOL!!!
The demonstrators need a little life experience with rabid animals. Maybe THEN they'd realize that there is no 'peaceful living' when there are infected animals around.

Who really cares what a bunch of spoiled brats who have never held a job think? The kids that work their way through college never seem to have time for protests and these are just overgrown little children who need their parent's money to take liberal classes that do them no good but leaves them lots of time to protests. An idle mind is the devil's workshop.

If the thought of peace leads you to vomit, we can only hope you have the decency to step out doors. You'll also want to watch your shoes.

Thanks for finding this burghgopguy!
OneidaM, indeed, that is singing into the bullhorn while a drunk peacenik is yelling into my ear about the Monkees. He tried to annoy me twice. I think at this point I was singing, "All we are saying, is give war a chance." He was telling me something about the Monkees. And I would pause occasionally to tell him to take it up with Yoko Ono.
Frankly, I found the press annoying, but at least the T-R got my name right. In the P-G, I was above the fold of the local section, but they messed up my last name.
Can somebody flag the other burgh FReepers for me? I actually have work to do today. I'll try to log on again tonight to respond on the original thread.

Maybe we can bus some of these folks to the next 'ground zero', and take them all out at once.

"If the thought of peace leads you to vomit, we can only hope you have the decency to step out doors. You'll also want to watch your shoes."
Yes. The thought of a slaughter of thousands of innocents leads me to vomit. We did not start this war, but, boy oh boy, are we gonna finish it. You mess with the United States and you lose. No more f'n around. If you don't support our effort to bring justice to those that perpetrated these horrible crimes against our country, you are one of them.
As for watching my shoes, I don't know what the hell you are talking about, unless you mean watching my foot while I use it to kick you in your ass.

And just in case they change the front page later, you can see the stuff here:
Oh-oh Say Can You See...
War supporter George Shields, left, of Point Breeze, is heckled by an anti-war protester as he runs after Sarah Tafel, a Chatham College senior, during a gathering at the University of Pittsburgh yesterday. (Martha Rial, Post-Gazette) |

And of course, they got my name wrong. I forgot to thank corporate America for readily supplying me with the materials necessary for this FReep on very short notice. |

How did you manage to restrain yourself and not kick that guy's ass? It looks like he is invading your personal space and too in your face. And my rule is: you get close enough for me to touch you, you are gonna get touched by my fists.
