No concealed handguns (CHL handguns) allowed in State Fair of Texas this year!

No concealed handguns (CHL handguns) allowed in State Fair of Texas this year!

No pocket knives, scissors, or anything that can be used for self defense, along with concealed handguns will be allowed into the State Fair of Texas this year. The anti-self-defense bigots have taken over.

To my understanding it is not illegal for Concealed Handgun Licensee's to carry firearms at places like the state fair. Unless the fair organizers (for the lack of a better term) have the correct signage posted at every entrance saying that the handguns will not be allowed. I haven't been over to check for signs yet, but I highly doubt they are posted. Nevertheless, the idea of not allowing CHLs to protect themselves and their families is not well advised.

People and their bags are being checked with metal detectors upon entrance.

I heard the mayor of Dallas, Ron Kirk, saying he didn't even want people carrying pocket knives to the fair! Sheesh!

We may not be able to change their minds in time for this years event, but we still need to educate these people about the dangers of making the State Fair a self defense free zone!

Well, I don't go where my type are not wanted.

I'd write a letter to whoever runs it(Ron Kirk?) and tell them that I will not spend my money there because of that.

Then I'd think about a nice protest.

he didn't even want people carrying pocket knives

Does all the food have to come in pre-cut?
If not what kind of backround check do the food preparers have to go through to bring their equiptment?
Do those food preparers have to be martial arts experts to prevent their equiptment from being taken and used as a weapon?

This list could go on nearly forever.

Terrorists are no different than common crooks in the sense that they will gravitate to places where no one can defend themselves. The anti-gun crowd are simply beyond stupid. Check out this Newsmax link for an article by John Lott advocating more concealed carry to combat arab terror: http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2001/9/28/205022.shtml

Try this:

Create a form on your word processor to the effect that the Texas State Fair assumes Total responsibility for your physical welfare and guarantees to protect you and your family from any and all harm which may be the result of any terrorist or illegal action or activity.

As you purchase your ticket, ask for a manager or officer of the Fair and tell them you will enter only if they sign it, since they are denying you the right to self-defense. Then, make a big stink about it in front of everyone when they refuse to sign.

As I recall, you can buy all kinds of knives at the fair--or at least you could in the past. I wonder if this new idiot ruling will deprive these vendors of one of their biggest sources of income.

One thing's for sure--I will not be attending this fair this year--for the first time in over twenty years!

You still go to the State Fair?

The neighborhood surrounding Fair Park resembles Beirut; I'd be afraid my truck would get stripped.

I haven't tested and won't test my state's CWP law around our airport. I may not carry where prohibited by federal law (airports) and in locations listed in my State's law. The security perimiter is so wide and the road blocks so far from the airport that I won't go into the neighborhood.

Truly we are being divided into first class citizens (allowed to effectively defend) and second class citizens that are expected to die sheeple.

Good for you! Please take the time to write the fair and Ron Kirk to explain why you will spending your money elsewhere this year! :)

Thanks,

I've gone to the State Fair of Texas every year for the last (blank) number of years.

I don't mind that no carrying is permitted. I feel perfectly safe at the Fair, but there are a lot of long-haired, maggot infested youth wandering around, with possibilities of some gang activity, so I think it's just as well they are not armed.

The people around the fair, while poor, make a lot of money with parking lots on their yards; they don't want anything to happen to make people afraid.

Anyway, you can ride the bus or park in the fair parking lots.

P. S. I have something else to say on the subject.

If I feel the need to carry, I do, no matter what a sign may say.

No one will ever know unless you have to use the weapon. Of course, if they're searching people, that's a different story, but they're certainly not going to search all the people who pour into the fairgrounds.

I'm not following this. Gangstas will find a way to carry weapons on them or will simply attack people outside of the gates. Honest people will be forced to leave their weapons in their cars and walk defenseless to and from the fair grounds. Besides the risk of the law-abiding being attacked, crooks will probably be breaking into more cars this year looking for left behind handguns, which will put more guns into the wrong hands. The whole idea of the concealed handgun law is to be a deterrent to those who would commit violent crimes against persons. If those with criminal intent have no fear of retaliation from fair goers, because they know beforehand that everyone is in a self defense free zone, I can't see how this would be a good thing...

Please explain, if you will. Texas is a "right to carry" state. This is based on the 2nd Amendment, right? I have seen signs in stores and other places that prohibit guns. My question is... how come these places get to decide when and where the 2nd Amendment applies? They do not get to decide what other laws (drug laws come to mind) they can ignore because they want to. So, how come they get to ignore the 2nd Amendment if they feel like it?

Park on the north side in the trendy restaurants parking lots. It will cost $5.00 but so does everything else. The cops hang out in that area (checking out the girls) because those two roads go north and south under the bridges of the freeway (I-30) straight to the cop shop on the other side. It is the cluster of restaurants right across the street from the MAIN entrance to the Fair.

I will be asking a LOT of questions (spreading and planting ideas regarding how the cops plan to "protect" everyone) to all the venders now that they can not exercise their right to Self-Defense. By the end of the Fair they (the Fair managers and the cops) should have a bellyful of hearing this from everyone they talk to. Lord help them if an unarmed CCW permitted individual gets robbed or mugged!

The Arkansas State Fair starts in a couple of weeks, and every year, I legally carry my handgun into the State Fair (legal under 2nd Amendment of the Constitution, allegedly illegal under current State Law.

You have to be an absolute idiot to not carry to the Arkansas State Fair....after dark, the entire area within a mile of the fairgrounds, coffins open up and the vampires come out.
