Rev. Peterson Calls On Black Americans To Rally Behind The U.S.

Los Angeles- Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny (BOND) Founder and President Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson today called on black Americans to unite behind President George W. Bush and the United States military for a long, protracted war on terrorism. Rev. Peterson is also urging black Americans to repudiate the recent "anti-American" actions of black leaders like Rev. Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Oakland, CA).

"This war is not a religious war, it's not a racial war-- It is a war between good and evil," stated Rev. Peterson. "The terrorists are evil people, they hate all Americans, because of the wealth of our nation, our influence around the globe, and the freedoms enjoyed by the American people." Last Wednesday, Rev. Jesse Jackson stated that he received an invitation from the Taliban to go to Pakistan and lead a "peace delegation" to the region. Later that week, it was reported that Taliban leaders stated they never invited Jackson. Despite President Bush's statements that his administration will not engage in any negotiations or discussions with the Taliban, Jackson continues to insist that his "peace delegation" could be a bridge. Al Sharpton severely criticized the leadership of New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, who has been praised for his exemplary leadership by both President Bush and most New Yorkers. Rep. Barbara Lee, the congresswomen who cast the only anti-war vote opposing the United States military action, continues to make disparaging comments about the Bush Administration.

"Jesse Jackson is a divider, not a bridge builder," said Rev. Peterson. "He has caused more division between the American people than any other leader over the past forty years. He has no business inserting himself into this war. It's a shame that Jackson and others are attempting to undermine the Bush Administration." Rev. Peterson urged black Americans to support U.S. actions, to "let the world know that Americans are united in this war."
