"Evening Grace?" Help time-shifted talk host Hugh Hewitt to replace "MORNING GLORY!"
The Hugh Hewitt Show is Moving to a New Time [Boston, Chicago, NY, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, LA] ^ | 10/01/2001 | RonDog

Nationally syndicated talk show host Hugh Hewitt has a problem,
but perhaps some creative FReepers can help him!

Some time ago, a listener called his early morning radio show with the rather unusual salutation, "Morning Glory, Hugh!"
And it caught on. Those two words perfectly captured the spirit of his show.

Just as for many years the phrase "Dittos, Rush!" has been used by callers to the Rush Limbaugh show as a way to say - "I like your show!" - and, "I have listened to you for long enough to know that I am supposed to say something like this!" - "Morning Glory, Hugh!" has quickly became a very popular way to the overcome the awkwardness often experienced by callers to his show during the first few critical moments when they are finally "on the air."

The problem is, that was THEN, but this is NOW.

"Good Morning Glory!" worked fairly well for a three-hour radio show broadcast from 6am to 9am on the West coast, and from 9am to noon on the East coast, but starting TODAY (Monday, October 1), Hugh's nationally syndicated radio show has shifted to PRIME TIME in most markets: from 3pm to 6pm on the West coast, and from 6pm to 9pm on the East coast.

Moving from early morning "lead-off batter" for the Salem Radio empire to their afternoon/evening "Clean-up hitter" is an excellent opportunity for Hugh to reach a MUCH wider audience, but it has made "Morning Glory" somewhat anachronistic.

For the last few weeks prior to his time change, Hugh has been discreetly requesting that his RADIO LISTENERS suggest a new catch phrase for him, since "Morning Glory" was a listener-driven concept. But alas, this request from Hugh has apparently "fallen upon deaf ears," as it were, since on his very first radio show in the new time slot, he "test-marketed" a NEW host-created two-part slogan, "Good End of Day" and "Evening Grace!"

Ouch. Not quite sure about that, Hugh. (That's CLOSE, but no cigar.) It just doesn't quite have the same panache.

What about it FReepers?

Surely WE can do better. What is YOUR suggestion for Hugh's new radio salutation?

Note 1: You do NOT have to have ever listened to Hugh's show to play along at home, although that would HELP!
It MIGHT be useful for you to know that Hugh presents himself as a center-right conservative, a "Voice of Reason" whose radio show "aims for your head, and not below the belt." Born in Ohio, graduated from Harvard, with a law degree from Michigan, and in his mid-forties, Hugh is an evangelical Christian who currently teaches Constitutional Law, once worked in the Justice Department for the Reagan administration, and at one time even helped Richard Nixon write his memoirs.

For those of you who choose to do some research about him, you can check out his website at www.HughHewitt.com, or read the background information already posted on an earlier thread, The Hugh Hewitt Show is Moving to a New Time [Boston, Chicago, NY, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, LA]

Note 2: The reason WHY that I am asking FReepers to help that some guy that YOU may never heard of before is that Hugh Hewitt lurks here, and often cites us as the source for his news. He LIKES FR, and many FReepers like HIM.

In addition, Hugh aggressively PROMOTES this forum - more frequently than he does many of his paying sponsors - to the point that he even encouraged his producer ("Generalissimo" Duane) to register here, see generalissimoduane joins FR.
And, he has been directly responsible for MANY new FReepers finding this place, including ME. (Thanks again, Hugh!)

Note 3: Please do NOT suggest "AFTERNOON DELIGHT!" (Please exhibit SOME imagination!)

I agree Annie, but we gotta help the guy - "Evening Grace" is real sad!!!!!! I sent one by e-mail when I heard him this evening, but now that I think about it mine is as stoopid as his.

Yes, I have to agree. When I heard him say, "Evening Grace" I just about choked on my coffee.
A gentleman called and said, "Evening Glory" and Hugh explained that it was going to be 'Evening Grace'. I like Evening Glory better.
My three cents(don't wish to take JohnHuang2's saying, and I am blonde. .)

Hugh is still the best host out there though. . . . .

I had to listen on the net. Hugh said it would play in Tucson; Duane, what happened?

Anyway, the show was great as usual. Can't think of anything that doesn's sound just as lame. "Brighter Day" OK; I told you it was lame. LOL!!

Oh, shoot. I forgot. We're getting him in Phoenix from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Back to the drawing board. (I love your screen name, btw.)

I used to listen to Hugh Heweitt in the mornings until I figured out that his personal commentary was only more of the same old weak dishwater that he's been regulary serving up on his KPBS public television stints for the past ten years. If it weren't for his stealing his ideas from the Real Politics web site and his regular guests, such as Frank Gafney, he wouldn't have as single thing to talk about. Old wine, new bottles as it were.

Sorry, but truth to tell, Hugh's nothing more that a self ritcheous, self promoiting pain in the ass these days. "Morning glory," my big toe! When his show finally dies, the talk radio genre will be much improved by it's passing.

The only reason I got this name is because someone didn't know how to spell Taggart. She was here before me but couldn't spell.

She must have had bad "training." As for Hugh's show, how about Homing In?

I guess a person who says self ritcheous(sic) and self promoiting(sic) has a lot to contribute. Wake-Up!

There is no compelling reason that the new slogan must reflect a "time of day" like "Morning Glory" did, right?

"Dittos, Rush!" - for example, is "time-less" as it were.

A person who can only respond to typo's obviously doesn't have rational arguments to present in rebuttal. Thanks for sharing.
