Today's NY Times has a long article about the peace protest yesterday in NYC...very 70's era in it's feel, and it devoted two small paragraphs to the counter-demonstrators. (Freepers?)Really good comments....so would you guys please recognize yourselves.....I've extracted the two relevant paragraphs..
But others, following the marchers, expressed another view.
"There's 5,000 people down their in the rubble. and they want justice," said James E. Bancroft, a former Marine. He carried a sign declaring "Peace is one Pentagon; one U.S.S. Cole, two embassies, and two towers too late."
I did a search and didn't see the article posted....
Oh, BTW, another gem from today's Times.....in the article written by a correspondant aboard the Enterprise, talking about the launch of the strike..he described how the excited seamen had all crowded up on the "observation deck", of the carrier, to watch the strike aircraft launch....Now, I always knew the Navy had it cushy (g), but the carriers have observation decks....what about the saunas?.....be nice if the paper assigned someone who knew a little bit about the military......and oh yeah, today's NY Daily News caption a picture aboard the Enterprise, as " a Navy soldier helps launch a plane........that's one for the books.....designed to annoy everyone in the military...(g)
In Three Languages, Urgently Chanting for Peace
Nice going as always Race.
I think the reporter spoke to a policeman who said they had been told to expect10,000 people, and the reporter left it at that. At the beginning there were scads of cops, police vans, and stacks of blue barricades that were not used. As the rally went on, many of the vans and cops went elsewhere. When the marchers left Union Square, they sure weren't a traffic-blocking mass either; there weren't enough of them.
I repeat, there were most definitely NOT 10,000 people at the peace rally. It's an outrageous lie.
The "one Pentagon; one U.S.S. Cole, two embassies, and two towers too late" sign belonged to Race Bannon.
\ Shameless self-promoting bump!
According to the New York Times, "The crowd was seven city blocks long and ultimately swelled to close to 10,000 people, the police said."

According to the New York Daily News, "Demonstrators marched from Union Square to Times Square to protest any move toward war. Organizers said 7,000 people participated, while cops put the number at 1,000."

According to the New York Post, "As the U.S. military was hitting Afghanistan with missiles and bombs, several thousand protesters gathered yesterday to make a plea for peace."

Looks like the Times is engaged in Million Man March Math.
That one was mine :) Wish I could take the credit, but a DC Freeper told us of a "Welcome, Traitors" sign at their anti peace rally, and I just localized the flavor.
"Honk if you love America" was KLT's hubby- didn't catch his screen name.
