Southern Avenue Metro Station Near Washington Closed (My Title)
WMAL 630 AM radio | October 9, 2001 | lawyamike

Posted on 10/9/2001, 5:11:40 PM by lawyamike

WMAL has been reporting for the last hour that the Southern Avenue Metro station -- just outside of Washington D.C. in suburban Maryland -- has been closed. The initial reports stated that a man with a suspicious package had been accosted by Metro employees, and that the package had leaked an oily substance on the subway platform. More recent reports state that several people who were in the station claim to feel ill. The story continues to develop.

It warrants some attention that if there were a plan to disseminate some sort of chemical or biological substance on the Metro during rush hour, the persons responsible would probably begin in the suburbs and work their way into the downtown District. It warrants equal note that everyone is on the edge, and even a leaky Crisco bottle on the subway would be enough to make me feel ill.

Southern Avenue Metro Station Shut Down Over Hazardous Material Incident

The Southern Avenue Metro station on the green line has been shut down as Prince George's County deals with a possible hazardous materials situation.

The unknown material was in a jar carried by a man who got into an altercation with a Metro Transit officer on the platform Tuesday morning, Metro spokesman Ray Feldman told WTOP.

During the 11:21 a.m. altercation, the man involved pulled a pulled a knife and a gun on the officer, Metro said.

The suspect, who is in custody, dropped the jar but it did not break or spill.

A hazardous materials team from Prince George's County will try to determine what the liquid in the jar is. No injuries have been reported. (Copyright by WTOP Radio. All rights reserved.)

Perhaps it was the 'guest bathroom' from This Old Box.

Also here's something from WMAL:

Man with container pulls a gun and a knife on police officer on Metro train

(Temple Hills-AP) -- A suspicious incident has shut down the Southern Avenue metro station on the Green Line.

Metro officials say a scuffle broke out between a transit officer and man on a train after the passenger pulled a knife and gun on the officer. The train stopped at the station and the fight continued onto the platform.

Officials say the man was carrying a jar that had a substance in it which fell onto the platform. It's unclear if the jar broke or what it contained.

The station was evacuated and closed shortly before 11:30 a-m. A Hazmat team is on the scene. Metro will transport passengers on buses to the Congress Heights and Naylor Road stations. Green Line passengers can expect 30 minute delays.

Bin Laden's broadcast after our attack probably contained signals to his sleepers. We shouldn't give him any airtime in the future. Who knows what code phrases can signal?

But our media has never been on our side.

political correctness, or perhaps FBI stepping in to control outflow of information. who knows? lots of edgy nerves out there. one could see, in DC, any number of nutcases and homeless walking around with bottles or bags and doing queer things. could happen on any given day...it is now highlighted because of the general nervousness.....

You may be right. I heard that he broadcast his sister's wedding video two days before the 9/11 attack (9/9). He is also rumored to have broadcast some other taped item before the prior attack on the WTC, but I'm not sure if this last one is a valid claim or not.

One thing that has caught my attention in both videos I've seen, are the goings on in the background, or the geographics of ther background itself.

In the first video - we had a plume of smoke rising behind Bin Laden and his degenerates.

In the second most recent video, the camera pans to an odd looking formation of rock above him to his left.

Could the code(if we assume that there is one), perhaps be one of location than of words?

Hazmat crew moves in on Metro rail station. (WTOP reports live/internet). Brendon Hazelton is reporting. Hazmat guys in suits at Southern Aven Metro stop. 15 people got sick. Sprayed in the station or on the train. People have been isolated, and a Greenline train. Transit officer scuffled and man drew a gun. Man taken into custody. Sprayed, and also said he was carrying a jar with unidentified substance. Briefing taking place right now. People who were sprayed and sick have been isolated. Green Line trains are delayed. Southern Ave station on Metro is closed. Too early to tell what is happening. Again, it is either some kind of planned attack, or a lone nut spraying something caustic, or something else. It if were sarin, those people would probably be dead by now. They were just complaining of dry throats.

Conflict here -- if jar didn't break, then the "35 hospitalized" are either there for psychosomatic symptoms, or because their illness from some other source.

if there were mild reactions, such as sore throats or whatever, this could be not a particularly caustic item, such as ammonia, or perhaps mass hysteria. WTOP is still reporting. Jar with substance fell onto station platform. Later, fire dept. Hazmat people went in, after several people were sick. Man sprayed a liquid on either station platform or in the station. Not clear if the spraying occured from a jar or from another container he had. Word that a second station, Congress Heights has been closed, one station up from Southern Avenue Metro. WTOP reporters says serious situation. Train the man was on has been taken away. Officials on scene will be briefing live/developing. 2:43 a.m. Tokyo time (1:43 p.m. Eastern Time)/ this now on CBS Radio.

Just heard on WTOP they have closed another station. Nonetheless, I still intend to stimulate the economy. Don't worry.

The Associated Press
Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001; 1:19 p.m. EDT

TEMPLE HILLS, Md. –– A Metro subway station just outside Washington was closed Tuesday after an armed man scuffled with a police officer and a jar with an unknown substance fell onto the platform, officials said.

Fire department hazardous-material teams in protective rubber suits responded after several people reported being sick.

Mark Brady, a Prince George's County Fire Department spokesman, said a man dispensed some type of product in the subway station.

"That product made people on the train sick, with dry throats and nausea," he said. About 15 people were isolated.

Officials who run the Metro subway system said a scuffle broke out between a transit officer and man on a train after the passenger pulled a knife and gun. The train stopped at the Southern Avenue station on the Green Line and the fight continued onto the platform.

Transit police took the man into custody. Officials said the officer and the armed man were not injured.

Dude I think you may have something. Here is the internet description of the Washington DC Metro station named Southern Avenue. There is news there about a beligerent man dropping liquid onto the platform, and authorities have closed the station.

"This station is located in a shallow open cut which appears to have been carved out of a hillside. "

Heck, he could have been spraying tap water and people would make themselves sick enough to be hospitalized. The mind is a powerful thing.

There probably will be hundreds of incidents like this, and people envelopes of sand or sugar and flour or white-out to businesses and organizations they don't like, and the fact that people are going to be "sick" or even hospitalized due to them is no evidence it was a real bio or chem attack.
