Listening to Andrea Mitchell on Imus just now. She considers those journalists who are "dealing with sandstorms" and in the middle of the fighting in "HEROES".
Boy does that cheapen a word used a lot lately to describe true heroes!

They are "storm chasers" of a different breed. Thrill seekers looking for that big break but certainly not "Heroes"

Maybe she has an eye for the frenchie who posed as a woman to get his story!!!!

Any woman with an eye for Greenspan certainly has questionable taste in men!

Our Servicemen and Women, and Our Law Enforcement Personnel, and Haz-mat Response Teams, including any Government 'First Response' Agencies are the
REAL HEROES, including the Passengers that recently took down the mental case on the airplane.
These people quietly take enormous risk of their own lives, on a daily basis, and never have their face flashed around the world.
People that are out chasing a Media Story, to outscoop anyone else, which they can use to propel their own media career, ARE NOT HEROES.
To: marktuoni
One reporter (I refuse to call them "journalists") scratching another's back. They've all devalued our language. If we agree with her, then "hero" means a lot less today than it did yesterday. Andrea's just another news slut. I quit watching Imus months ago because of his constant ass-kissing of these people.

They do allow us to be informed which is the key to a democratic society. (I do not say that they inform us as we have to pick and choose and comb through the dribble to get at the real story).
To: marktuoni
Yes, but Bill Clinton was also her hero, so it's not saying much.

HEROES. Pick one group.

Andrea Mitchell wouldn't know a hero if one bit her in the ass.

Unfortunately, most of them seem to want to "interpret" as opposed to "inform".
To: Diogenesis
LOL! That's a no-brainer!

El perfecto!

I dont need them 'on the ground' reporting to me how desperately poor the local Afghan community is, or watching Afghanis and others burning US Flags.
Or having Special Forces Operations being filmed either.
This is the Democratic Society over here, not there, I would like to see more coverage of the 'personal sacrifice' that Our Servicemen and Women's Families face over here, as well as more Media coverage of the Trade Center Victims Families who have yet to receive any Aid from all these huge agencies, that have netted millions of donations.
Then, instead of 'LOOK AT ME OVER HERE IN DANGER'stories, we can see more of a 'greater public interest' served by the Media.
To: virtualreb
They do allow us to be informed
That's not a power I want them to have either!

In the barrel of life, who's at the bottom--lawyers or reporters?

You got that right, Pilgrim!
To: marktuoni
If she's referring to the definition of hero as a large sandwich filled with a lot of baloney, then she is correct.
Otherwise, she could not be more mistaken.
To: marktuoni
Aren't our heros in NY and weren't thoes who died wrestling with the hijackers 'volunteers'? Doesn't volunteer mean they don't get paid the'big bucks'?
