Argghhhh, the press still doesn't get it. And apparently some in Congress and the administration still don't either. I'm really glad that President Bush got so angry about the leak last week. It is scaring people into doing the right thing. It might be for the wrong reason (the wrath of W), but it is still the right thing to do.

Good post.
"They think I'm working for them."
Actually, we are at war.
The press does work for the White House when we are at war.
We forgot that part in Vietnam.

If Britain can show evidence, why cant the United States? I don't know the answer to this question, but I suspect that if the U.S. publicly released much of this information there would be some strong indications as to just how this information is collected.

I have to learn to be more duplicitous if Im going to cover this White House. Yeah, it all used to be so easy. All you had to do is print the daily "talking points" faxed from the White House basement, and flop over on your back if clinton entered the room, and you got an unlimited supply of chardonnay and first-class ord'oeuvres. Now you've got to write up the news reports by your very own self, and try not to commit treason too often.
What's a girl to do?

When did U.S. reporters stop being Americans? I wanted to ask.
May 13, 1968.

The article is trash, but worth reading to see how limited the understanding of such infotainers really is. President Bush needs to make it clear that leaking classified information by any member of Congress will be met with charges of treason. Lock up the suspects and sort it out. Sayonara, Senator Hatch.

"Actually, we are at war." When did we get a formal Declaration of War? I guess I missed it.

And that is exactly what Ari Fleischer told them that day of the press briefing. The information that Britain released was almost all gathered before Sept 11.

Despite jovial relationships with individual reporters, President Bush does not count any reporters among his friends.
GW is very wise in this respect. No reporter will ever be looking out for GW's best interest.

By wearing one myself (American flag pin), I began to feel as if I were working for them. No one can appropriate the American flag, but I finally came down on the side of keeping my patriotism to myself. Typical liberal thinking. Wearing a flag shows we're UNITED during this time of national duress and I guess that equates to "working for them" in their minds. Must be the same reason the news anchors don't wear them -- got to be sensitive to the foreign nationals in the US. You know, multiculturalism and all that...

Bush better get his act together. Why on earth would he give any classified information to Congresscritters? If they need to be appeased somehow, the administration should just make up a bunch of fake "classified information" to feed them to keep them happy and make them feel like they are "in the loop", etc., if that's what they need to massage their teenage egos. But for pete sake don't give them anything real.

Bush hates leaks and he hated them long before he was elected as President. When he expects something to be confidential, he requires it. Leaking will get you fired, and so will lying to him. Period.
