Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle yesterday took control of the energy bill in a move to strengthen his opposition to the administration's proposal to drill for oil in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, which President Bush says is critical to national security.

Screw'em. Bush should declare a national emergency - should not be hard to do under present circumstances - and start drilling. The property, I believe, is presently owned by the U.S, anyway; there should be no expropriation issues. All the Dems can do at that point is scream, go to a Clintonite Fed judge and hope for the best. Bush does have certain substantial powers in times of national emergency - being so materially dependent on foreign sources for energy is a national emergency (and national idiocy.) And finally, Bush should be aware one of the married man's best philosophical tenets, "It's better to ask for forgiveness than permission."

I have a good feeling that after drilling the 2000 acres in ANWR the oil companies will have enough information that will show that this area has the potential of replacing all the imports from the Middle East. Too bad the liberal democrats cannot see past their noses and refuse to believe that this will help America to be energy independent. America now imports about 60% of our oil. The cut of of this supply of oil would destroy our economy! Will these liberal democrats ever wake up?

With the poll numbers he is presently carrying, I hope Bush weighs in and makes a VERY public appeal to Daschle not to oppose his proposal, citing national security reasons. The last thing we need right now is for Daschle and company to screw around with this piece of legislation. Shows you just how low and dirty Daschle plays, doesn't it?

URGENT MESSAGE TO PRESIDENT BUSH:

You have the Bully Pulpit.

People understand the need to be independent of crazy people in the Middle East.

People are strongly in support of you.

Daschle will fold if you raise the visibility.

Do it now, before the media "brainwashes" more people.

It's about National Security!

I agreee completely. Bush needs to go to the Energy Department today or tomorrow and lay out his Energy Plan as it relates to current situation, like he did at State, and Justice, and Homeland, and Labor.

"At a time like this, it is vital that Americans become more self-sufficient. We are engaged in a war that will take years, not months, and the ability to supply vital energy to our businesses and our troops must be under America's control, not under the control of the Terrorists....

Some will say that this is a divisive issue, or that this is a partisan issue. IT is not, it is a National Security issue and one that we must ACT ON NOW.

Today, I am asking the Congress to speed up passage of my ENergy Plan, including searching for all significant sources of domestic energy. This includes ANWR and careful steps must be taken to ensure that this exploration and harvesting be done with minimal damage to the area. Our strength as a nation will be enhanced tremendously by removing the ability of the Evildoers to blackmail us with energy. Pass this Plan now, it is the Right thing to do."

This story is being suppressed by every other paper I have looked at on-line.

This shows how unpopular the Daschle/Leftist position is IMHO.

If they thought they had support for this tactic, they would be screaming it loud on page 1 that
'Bush Hijacks War Support to Enrich Oil-Exec Pals At Expense of Environment' or similar blather.

Since they're spiking it, they know their Spin Machines are on the fritz temporarily.

I agree!! It is NOT a partisan issue....and even if it were, too bad, Daschle. We are at war and we have chosen Bush as our commander-in-chief and if he says that this is a matter of national security, then we must follow his lead or show great cause why we should not. Something Daschle cannot do at this moment.

I admit, I'm guilty. I'd love to see Daschle run out of town on this issue if necessary.

I wish this had been posted as either Breaking or Front Page news as I think it is very important issue and that Daschle could use some phone calls from Freepers.

Since there are no other news agencies reporting this,I can't find a different article to post on the same subject to make it higher visibility. ANy way to change this to Front Page or Breaking?

Frank Murkowski press releases, w/ E-mail links to Dem. Senators. Please Freep.

Senator Murkowski was furious at his press conference yesterday on C-Span. He rightly called the Dem. leadership's tactics a threat to our national security.
