MURKOWSKI: DASCHLE ENERGY DECISION SUBVERTS PEOPLE'S WILL
WASHINGTON -- Alaska Sen. Frank Murkowski today called on Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD) to reconsider his decision to suspend committee action on energy legislation. Murkowski told reporters on Capitol Hill today he is disappointed and troubled by the Majority Leader's action.
"Senator Daschle has subverted the will of the Energy Committee, the will of the Senate, and the will of the American people--all in order to deny the President a political 'win,'" Murkowski said. "The American people were promised action on an energy bill. In turning a matter of national security into a partisan issue, the Majority Leader's action is the height of irresponsibility.
"Chairman Bingaman has announced that Sen. Daschle and a select group of Senate Democrats will write an energy bill and bring it directly to the Senate floor. This is an affront to the committee process. There will be no mark-up in the Energy Committee and there will be no open, public debate on a national energy policy," Murkowski said. "How can there be balance in the bill without any input from rank-and-file Democrats, let alone from the Minority?
"Our nation's strength lies in our ability to openly debate issues. This decision subverts the very democratic process that makes us so strong in troubled times," Murkowski said. "This is a return to the days of the proverbial smoke-filled rooms and represents the very worst type of politicking.
"The House, recognizing that energy security is integral to national security, has done its job by passing comprehensive energy legislation," Murkowski said. "I urge the Democratic Leader to reconsider this decision and give us a time certain for a floor debate. The people's business should be conducted in an open, honest, and forthright manner."
MURKOWSKI STATEMENT ON BINGAMAN DECISION
WASHINGTON -- Alaska Sen. Frank Murkowski, ranking member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, released the following statement this evening after Chairman Jeff Bingaman announced that he has "suspended any further mark-up of energy legislation for this session of Congress."
"This action by the Democrat majority has taken the nation's energy security and made it a partisan issue locking out Republicans and the entire committee process. The Senate Democrat leadership has abandoned the bipartisan approach established in the House when Republicans and Democrats came together to pass their energy bill (H.R. 4).
"Such action by the Senate leadership is inappropriate at a time when our country is seeking unity on an energy policy, recognizing the vulnerability of our nation. Our increasing dependence on foreign energy helps facilitate terrorism.
"Already our economy has been disrupted. We cannot afford to let our nation's energy security be disrupted as well. Clearly, the public supports a bill. Labor supports a bill. Our national security demands a bill," said Murkowski.

Daschle is operationally a traitor in subverting our national energy security in time of WAR.
Daschle has subverted national security & a rational energy policy concerns to a Leftist-Democrat
& eNazi extremist radical politcal agenda.
No the 'facts are irrelevant' enviral lobby. If 9-11 didn't wake up these guys, nothing will.
How many cars and factories would it take to equal the "pollutants" released into the atmosphere by the WTC attack? The adults are back in charge except in the Senate.
He is. How much influence do you think Hillary had in the decision to take the discussion behind Dem. closed doors and leave the Republicans and committee members (and experts) out of the debate? Any Dem. with a conscience and some basic knowledge of our energy needs has to oppose his leadership on this. Zell Miller, please join the ranks of the patriots.
According to Frank Murkowski at his press conference: the President has stressed the need for his energy bill, House had already passed it and sent it on, the Senate committee had the votes to bring their energy bill to the floor, the Senate had the votes to pass it, the Dem. leadership (Daschle + ?) yanked it out of the committee and took it off the table for this year. He plans to draw up his own energy bill behind closed doors without the committee, Republicans or experts on the subject (a la Hillarycare).
What would it take to wake these idiots up? rant over (^:
You are a traitor to your country. Do not think this will be forgotten soon by any American who was alive on September 11, 2001. Do not think that we don't know that Saudi Arabia has refused to freeze Osama bin Laden's assets or that most of those who wish us evil are from the countries our petrodollars support.
Do not think we don't know you have given aid and comfort to Saddam Hussein and his merry thugs.
The Saudi Princes and Iranian *clerics* will love you, but your AMERICAN constituents will despise you.
Do not think we don't know that you have betrayed this entire country by keeping us beholden to an ogre called OPEC. I would damn you all, but you have already succeeded in doing it for me.
While we await the NEXT attack, it is my most heartfelt prayer that you and your fellow travelers develop something akin to a conscience.
Yours MOST Sincerely,
Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us this opportunity to help the country. Unabashed patriotic hugs to all Freepers
My senators are Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell. Hope you'll understand if I just don't bother.
Great letter. I'm watching the Pentagon memorial service, the names of our dead American patriots scrolling by and wondering how our Democrat leaders can live in this country and be so blind. Regards.
