Here's news every chocolate-lover longs to hear: Chocolate may actually be good for you--especially dark varieties. Dutch researchers indicate that dark chocolate contains four times the amount of catechin antioxidants than black tea, which is suspected of having a protective effect against heart disease and possibly cancer due to its antioxidant properties.

The researchers analyzed the amount of catechins in chocolate and tea and found that dark chocolate contained the most. Milk chocolate had just a bit more than black tea. They also analyzed the food intake of more than 6,200 women and men to determine the importance of chocolate as a source of catechins in typical diets. While tea made up 55% of the total intake of catechins, chocolate contributed 20%.

Although no one is suggesting that you gobble heaps of chocolate--it does contain high levels of fat and sugar, after all--the researchers say the old Dutch habit of having a cup of tea and a chocolate cookie might be a healthy indulgence as well as an enjoyable one.

Somehow, I don't think my doctor will go for me eating chocolate, no matter how many studies come out and say a little may be a good thing...

"Although no one is suggesting that you gobble heaps of chocolate--"

I AM - as a self-declared expert on chocolate, I suggest that we all gobble heaps AND heaps of chocolate. Make it so...

Mmmmmmmm...I am looking at a scrumptious bar of Ghirardelli Sweet Dark Chocolate...
before I drive over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge to the Tampa Airport for a flight
to Chicago Sunday morning.

That's it! If I can't pack my heat...I'm taking the chocolate bar and I'll pick up a bag of
spicy hot pork rinds enroute to the airport.

A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do...

If you like Ghirardelli chocolate, do you have any "World Market" stores where you are? Along about October, they sell pieces of the large chocolate wheels, wrapped in plastic, and priced by the weight? Better than good - and they have Dark pieces, too - yummo!

Greetings from The Netherlands (Holland) this morning, as I find this tidbit of tasty news! Too bad its Sunday and only the gas stations are open.

Once you start eating this wonderful chocolate, Dutch, German, Belguim, ah yes the Belguim chocolate! Yummy.

To me, there's no better milk chocolate in the world than Cadbury's Dairy Milk Chocalate. It lingers....
