Anyone hear Ridge say to have 10 DAYS food & water preps?
Glenn Beck radio show

Good morning everyone!
Yesterday a.m. I was listening to the Glenn Beck radio show (good program!) and heard him say that Tom Ridge (Homeland Defense) was telling Americans to have 10 DAYS of food and water on hand at home.
Has anyone else heard that? Also, does anyone have any links to articles verifying that info, please? I've got some sheeple family members I'm trying to convince.
Thanks!

Just a good idea to have several weeks worth of food, water, household items anytime not just now. Also a couple of years worth of ammo just in case you forgot to get something at the store and you need to recon it from that neighbor you don't much care for

I haven't heard that, but I tell you that it would be foolish not to have 3 weeks worth, just in case. As for vitamin C, Del Monte "Fruit-To-Go" packs have plenty, and a 1.5 year shelf life, so no scurvy on my ship!

"Also a couple of years worth of ammo just in case you forgot to get something at the store and you need to recon it from that neighbor you don't much care for" Too much! I had a conversation with a few of my neighbors over the weekend about "being prepared" (I'm in L.A. and with earthquakes, we have been prepared for some time now), and I jokingly said, I don't need provisions, just lots of ammo. One guy asked me why ammo? Did I expect a shooting war here? I said no, just need the ammo so I can appropriate any supplies I might need in case a situation arises. The looks I received went from puzzled to startled. I guess my reputation in the neighborhood is worse than I thought.

Hard to judge just what a "couple of years" implies. Based on past practices, I have more then enough, but when I look at the world situation, I may need to buy a couple more boxes, or rather cases.

Batteries, first aid, and a some cheap bleach to purify water with.
Lots of ammo is always a good idea, for the occasional drag strip riot or whatever.

Whenever ammo comes up, you guys always make me howl. BTW I tried to get husband to go get a weapon with me yesterday so I could get a nice little handgun. He wants a shotgun. What would you all suggest for the just in case a neighbor comes over to get my twinkies. Just kiddingk, I don't have no twinkies, I don't know nuffin' about no twinkies. No hersheys chocolate here. No Dove Bars either. Go next door.

This sounds like something I just read this morning on that Urban Legend web site: this started to spread after a minister that visited with Bush told his congregation to stock up on food and water for 10 days. NOT because of anything Bush had told him but because it just sounded like a prudent thing to suggest to the members of his church.

Why don't we all just move into our own street at the Frontsite Community?

How much ammo do you use per recon trip <LOL>?

What is Frontsite Community?

"...need the ammo so I can appropriate any supplies I might need..."
Better have plenty if you're eye'n my house, partner.
Be careful of which house you target - I'm sure our neighbors see us as a quiet, harmless christian couple - but a forced entry will result in heavy casualties!

It's just a good idea to be prepared at any time. I'm just starting to build up a pantry. Every trip to the store I buy a little more.
If it turns out I don't have enough, I'd gladly exchange my looter protection services in exchange for various food items.

Nothing beats a shotgun for ease of aim and stopping power. Personally, I'd get both. Shoot whatever you are comfortable with.

Cajungirl,
If the gun is for you, I'd go with the pistol (make sure it's .38 caliber or higher).
1. I've shot 12 ga. & 20 ga. shotguns and they're too much power.
2. They're also harder to maneuver inside a house AND could be taken away from you by your attacker.
3. Even if you do hit your attacker, the bullet might easily overpenetrate. Meaning it would hit the attacker, go through him, go through your home's wall and hit a neighbor, a passing car, etc...
Imo, a pistol is a much better home defense weapon, especially for a woman, for the above reasons stated. I have a .357 magnum Ruger and LOVE it, very easy to handle, not too overpowering.
