NYC City 4-5-6 Subway Lines Shut Down ???

Not sure what is up here in NYC. Just after 11pm, I attempted to enter the subway (the 6 line) at Bleeker Street. A police officer stopped me, informing me that the subway was shut down due to an anthrax scare. I have tried not to don the tin foil cap on this issue, but I have been worried about a subway release from the beginning - total nightmare senario. We would never know we had been exposed until (arguably) too late. Unfortunatly, there would be no "Cipro in case of exposure, " like in the case of the mailed letters. Any other Freepers in the city hear anything? As of yet, I have not seen any related news on this topic.

I'm certain this is just an isolated incident. Don't worry, be happy.

I wouldn't worry. The urine vapor in the air will neutralize it.

Theres a lot more scary stuff down there than Anthrax.
A gas mask would be a good idea at all times, especiallly now that either Green or the RINO Blumenthal are about to become Mayor.
The homeless will soon be out in force again.

Yes, the police officer. There were two of them guarding the entrance. One was speaking to a woman who was visibally shaken -- not sure why -- and the other was informing everyone that they would not be able to take the 4, 5 or 6 trains. Very scary. I can only hope that it was a high school kid bored on a friday night.

If you know you might have been infected by Anthrax before you feel any symtoms, the point is moot--Antrax is only a threat if it is a surprise and you dont know to get medical treatment. These letters are a joke, they might as well come with a months supply of Cypril.

hmmmmmmm.... very interesting, wonder why its not on tv, and its in new york yet. time to take the 4 train to the yanks game tomorrow... this is serious stuff. i dont subscribe to the crowd that thinks were overreacting to the threat. look at the house of reps, "everything is fine, go t owork, be noraml, buy a car, travel" and they shut down with no threat or a shred of evidence anthrax is anywhere in the house.

I am searching all local NY stations and sites. Nothing yet. This is scary.

Busting a gut on that one!!! Truthfully, let's hope it's another false alarm.

Sounds like it's being covered up; or it's a false alarm. We've had a few of the latter, you know.

I know what you mean. I just spoke to friend of mine who is a waitress at Noho Star (a restaurant in lower Manhattan). She said that the subway "shut-down" is all that anyone has been talking about in the restaruant tonight. I am wondering if this will even make it to the news... I mean can you imagine the panic and immobility that would ensue if anthrax was discovered in the subway? Tourism numbers would plummet to dismal levels, and the city would basically shut down. I live in Queens, and I have NO idea how I would get anywhere. -

all i can say is, the first poor soul who died from anthrax was called an isolated incident, it was just a coincidence that he got it at this time just after the 911 attacks. even told us he probably got it in nc when we was hunting, avid outdoorsman. now, who knows how many exposures and 8 infected people later, were still being told all is well, isoalted incidents. didnt 2 folks get detained yesterday in pa with a video tape of the area around the sears tower in chicago? lets be realistic here... why would a couple arabs come here and video the sears tower????
