On Sunday, Governor Gray Davis (D) signed SB 52 and AB 35, which remove the exemptions for licensed hunters and retired veterans from the requirement to obtain the Handgun Safety Certificate, formerly called the Basic Firearms Safety Certificate (BFSC). Those individuals that have served our country courageously, as well as those persons who have undergone hunter safety courses, now must take a written test, demonstrate "safe" handling procedures, and give a thumbprint before receiving state permission to purchase a handgun. In addition to the increased regulations, the shelf life of the certificate is only five years, in comparison to the current BFSC, which is good for life.

I can't
imagine complying with such edicts.
I can easily imagine buying a handgun though.
Just say 'NO' to gun control treason.

Just like drivers' licenses improve driving safety and teachers' certificates make better teachers.

now must take a written test, demonstrate "safe" handling procedures, and give a thumbprint before receiving state permission to purchase a handgun. I was under the impression that the Constitution guaranteed this right without having to get anyone's "permission".
My right is protected within the UNITED STATES. My rights do not change when I enter into different geographic areas within the U.S.. Kalifornia's measures are the same as a poll tax. The Founders NEVER intended on the possibility that someone in one state who has done nothing wrong by carrying a gun in their glove compartment or in their pants would be considered a felon one foot across the border of another geographic area(called States).

You know there are more than a few a**hole socialist communist in Michigan too. So does this make Michigan a sh*thole? Get a grip pal. Our former President was a complete a**hole and a disgrace. Did that make the United States a sh*thole? Think before you post chump.
Don't shoot your friends just because they may be close to your enemies.

How hard would it be to start a boycott of the entire state? We tell them we will buy nothing from CA till they throw out Davis and Feinstein.
To: Lizavetta
Its intersting that they claim this is all for "Safety", but then remove the exemption for those who already have all the safety training one could imagine.

now must take a written test Now I thought literacy could not be used as a criteria for one to excercise a Constitutionally protected right? Surely their is one attorney in Kalifornia that can dig up an illiterate, poor minority and sue the pants off the great State of Kalifornia?

I wonder who in the hell is going to pay for this! Are you going to have to pay a fee or tax in order to have the right to own a weapon? Does poll tax sound familiar?

Every time I think about moving back to California, I realize that I must be sniffing too much glue.

Have you ever lived in California? I lived there for 21 years of my life, and thus I think I have the right to comment on life in that state. The place is festering with hard core liberals. It is by a huge margin the state of this union which is farthest to the left. It is absolutely
radical in its lean to the left. There is nary a conservative Republican to be found in that state.
That's what makes it a sh--hole. You're comparing a tiny handful of liberals in Michigan to the raging socialist government of California? Sounds like
you're the one who needs to get a grip. And I ain't your pal, nor am I a chump. Keep your condescending little names to yourself.

Excuse me but if you would like to put your money where you mouth is I would venture to say that there are more registered Republicans in CA than MI. Semper Fi, Mike

You sound a little hysterical. I am glad you saved yourself from the mean, hard core liberals. lol. You are safe now in Michigan.
Actually, I am glad you left as we don't need anymore timid quitters and whiners here. I can only hope you took some of your frightened friends with you.
Where are you going to run to next?
To: /\/\1ND
Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, Bob Dornan. Three of my favorite "conservative" Republicans who hail from California. And the capital of conservatism? Orange County, CA. I guess you have been away too long. You have forgotten the rich history of conservatism and the Republican Party. Semper Fi, Mike

And we won't buy anything from South Caolina. ROFLMAO. Besides cigarettes (which I quit 20 years ago) it's going to be tough but I think we could survive without South Carolina's products. ROFLMAO.
To: HEFFERNAN2
Is California, or is it not, a hotbed of radical leftism? More so than ANY other state? I can't BELIEVE I'm having this discussion. You guys can't even smoke a friggin' cigarette in a bar over there, and you're arguing with me about this?
In the words of one of my favorite breakbeat bands, "Take California". You can have it.

And I am safe in Michigan, thank you. We can carry handguns out here. Consider yourself lucky you can still own handguns out there. Keep your head in the sand. You seem happy there.

Join the club, we already have the NAACP boycotting us over the conferderate flag and we're doing okay. I'm not sure why you would want to do that...granted we have to take some heat over Fritz Hollings but he is about as conservative a democrat as you can hope for.
To: DoSomethingAboutIt
Fritz Hollings? Oh Mr. KKK himself.
To: /\/\1ND
This is absolute horsedung! I hate this man! I already have my hunter's safety, why do I need a separate permit now???
