"Up to [Monday], there was no evidence at all that there could be -- or is -- an individual in which there might be the reasonable question, 'Did they get infected from a piece of mail that went to their home?'" said Dr. Anthony Fauci of the National Institutes of Health. "That is being intensively investigated right now."

An admission that this may be more widespread than first thought?

It sure is. Those early letters to high profiles types were to let us know they have it. For weeks now we've been looking for unusual looking letters like the ones sent to Daschle and Brokaw. It's probably being sent out as junk mail or utility bills or something we have not even suspected

An admission that this may be more widespread than first thought? Probably just the next phase of a terror campaign. I would guess that along with private homes, schools would be a logical target. Here's praying I am wrong.

It has to be on the mail ,if the machines spread it everywhere else......
To: Glenn
Mail sorting facility or not, nearly everyone comes in contact with mail.
My fear is that the American left, who are convinced that conservatism is a form of Taliban, won't rest till they find a way to hang some of the terrorism on the right. There was one form the FBI who already equated pro-life with terrorism.
First the Arabs, then the Pro-lifers...

I sure hope those million-dollar irradiation machines the PO is going to install have been tested to be sure of effectiveness against anthrax spores.

Those early letters to high profiles types were to let us know they have it. YES. I have been saying this since the start. There is no other reason to do this unless you only had a small amount, and that makes no sense because it's easy to grow more once you have even a small amount.

They're probably not mailing it either. Don't be surprised if there are a few thousand cases reported in the next few days.

Many people especially FReepers write their congress critters, or get publications from the government. This is all mailed out of the SAME mail rooms as the anthrax has been found in. I get crime data from the BJS and letters (occassionaly) from my congress critters (when they are of the mind to answer my emails). Cross contimination is a
distinct possibility. Especially from that weapons grade stuff in daschele's office. The dumb bunnies at the CDC did not have the forsight to understand this, so it could be spreading.
The History channel has been doing random bio-terrorism stories over the last couple of weeks. The one last night was on on of the Russian bio-labs (cold war) accidental release of anthrax which KILLED 70 people, when the wind blew the stuff on their small village. Didn't catch the name of the village.

If they go after schools, I wonder if we will still worry about Rahmadan or 'Arab sensitivity'?? 'course I wouldn't worry about either with 5000+ American civilian casualties, but I'm not in the state department.
Too bad our 'crats don't have the gumption the American people do.

just to be safe i am tossing all letters with windows.

This is good news -- the past two days I've been seeing "experts" telling people that the attacks were all focused on the elites -- the media mucky-mucks and the national government. That regular folks had been targeted at the WTC and have died from anthrax was just poo-poohed.
"No problem for the average American" -- sick stuff, that attitude.
Always remember, the first three words that establish our nation are "We the People"!
This is a war on US, anyone who claims it is a war on just a small group of some elite "them", or who acts on that basis is an enemy, a sabotuer.

I thought the NY woman had extensive mail-handling duties as part of her position at the hospital? I'll try to find that story.
Not exactly jaw-dropping about anthrax being sent to homes, that's for sure. It will be interesting to see how this "new" information is addressed by the media.

Nuke mecca.

Maybe more letters than originally thought. I just hope one case will lead back to its source.
