Bus rolls on side in Arizona after struggle between passenger, driver

             The Associated Press
             11/4/01 11:31 AM

PHOENIX (AP) -- A passenger grabbed the
steering wheel of a Greyhound bus while
struggling with the driver on Sunday and caused
the vehicle to roll off the road, injuring about 30
             people.

No other vehicles were involved, said Officer
Hyrum D'Addabbo of the Arizona Department of
             Public Safety.

The passenger accused of struggling with the bus
driver was taken into custody, he said. The
identity of the passenger was not released.

The bus originated from Los Angeles and was
             headed for Miami, Fla.

The struggle occurred around 1 a.m. during the
Phoenix-to-El Paso leg of the trip, near Casa
             Grande, said Greyhound spokeswoman Jamille
             Bradfield.

"A passenger went to the front of the bus and
grabbed the steering wheel and a struggle
between the passenger and the driver ensued,"
D'Addabbo said. "The bus went off the roadway
and then re-entered the eastbound lanes and
             rolled onto its side."

The injured were taken to area hospitals. The
extent of their injuries were not immediately clear.

The identity of the passenger was not released.

We don't want to know the identity of the passenger. We just want to know if he was a "swarthy" looking dude.

On the off-chance that this is an accurate report and the even 'off-er' chance that it's terrorist related, shouldn't our response be: ''is this the best you can do?''

This may be the 2nd passenger caused bus wreck since 9/11. I know strange things happen everyday, but I'd say the sleepers have awakened.....

Why would the passenger's struggle with the driver?

You need to understand the type of people who ride the Greyhounds these days - mostly dopers, bums, and psychos. It's not the good, honest poor folks like in the old days.

About twenty years ago I took the bus from Phoenix to LA. To avoid all the dope-smoking, gambling, loud talk, and foul smells back in the back on the first leg of the trip, I sat in the front right seat out of Barstow.

There was this old black guy dressed up as a beatnik sitting in back, and out in the middle of nowhere he be-bops up to the front and tells the driver he wants off. Driver says, "I'm sorry sir, I can't stop the bus between stops. I'll let you off at the next scheduled stop." So the guy grabs the drivers arm and starts pulling it.

At that point, I stood up and grabbed the guys arm - almost ripped it off - and told him VERY LOUDLY to go back and sit down, which he did.

When the bus stopped at Claremont, this guy got off, and took a cab to somewhere...

Last time I ever rode the bus.

heh heh

Actually, I want to know the identity, race, sex, age, underwear size, weight at birth and anything else about this guy and anyone else involved in acts such as these. This PC nonsense is driving me crazy. How can we be "on highest alert" if we don't know who to look for. Sheeeesh!

A bus in this part of the country is most likely to be filled with all swarthy looking people, I just would like to know if the last name is hispanic or arabic.
