People who don't own firearms are like
people who don't have fire extinguishers and first aid kits:
unprepared!
To: JoeGar
Works for me. Firearms owned before 9/11 = 0. After = 3. Because you never know when you might need one, and when you do need one, it's too late to get one. (And learn how to use one, I might add.)

The government will not protect us. It's more concerned about protecting
political correctness than it is about protecting American Citizens. If it cared about us, it would send the Muslim visitors home. Like this:
FUTURE WIDOWS OF AMERICA: WRITE YOUR CONGRESSMAN
The enemy is in this country right now. And any terrorists who are not already here are free to immigrate. The government has been doing an excellent job rounding up suspects from the last two attacks. But what about the next attack? We thought there was only one murderous Islamic cell in America the last time, too. Congress has authority to pass a law tomorrow requiring aliens from suspect countries to leave. As far as the Constitution is concerned, aliens, which is to say non-citizens, are here at this country's pleasure. They have no constitutional right to be here.

It was reported that during the L.A. riots, when people called the police to help them, the reply was: "I hope you bought a gun....yesterday! See you in two weeks."
To: JoeGar
The gun control issue is effectively dead for at least 10 years.

The government will not protect us.
The only thing the government can do is protect us in the general and abstract. That's even written into the Constitution ("promote the general welfare"). Courts have consistently held that police are under no legal obligation to protect any specific individual.
Personally, I think I was lulled into complacency by the fact that I live in a relatively low-crime area, despite the fact that I have always been a proponent of the 2nd Amendment.

I don't own a gun, because I don't know where to buy one in my area. Plus I need some advice on the best model to have, (most popular, best brand name, most common, adequate stopping power, etc). I'd prefer semi-automatic to a revolver. If I knew of a shop near Metro Atlanta, I'd pay them a visit, before guns are outlawed for good.....

Why buy a gun from a dealer, where your purchase is recorded? Get a local paper and find one in the want ads, where you can buy without record-keeping.
To learn what to buy, read the various gun threads here at FR. You can start here.

You can buy a gun at the shooting range just north of the Farmers Market in Riverdale, but you hafta fill out the form 4473 and do the background check idiocy, on the other hand you can buy from an individual and avoid paper trails that authoritarians love.
If I remember correctly there is a gun show either at the Farmers Market or the Flea Market I-75 exit 221 the weekend after Thanksgiving.

I just ordered three brand spanking new M1 Garands from Springfield Armoury who started building them again last month to keep up with the demand.
They sell for $974. with all new military spec parts including magazine and barrel.
For the uninitiated this was the premiere military rifle of the U.S. ground forces in Korea and (I think) the first part of VietNam.
They changed the caliber during the VietNam War to chamber a .308 instead of the standard 30.06 to make use of a NATO round.
This is without a doubt the most dependable shoulder weapon ever devised by man.

I just bought some stock in Ruger (RGR) as they are a great American company making fine firearms, solid finances and paying an excellent dividend.
Send your goons Farrakan, Black Panthers, and other Muslim radicals I am ready!

The gun control issue is effectively dead for at least 10 years. I hope you're right, but I would bet money you are wrong.
To: Malcolm
I don't own a gun, because I don't know where to buy one in my area. You haven't been looking. Entering a yahoo search for '+Atlanta +"gun store"' got 188 web page matches. Substituting "gun club" for "gun store" gets 792 matches
Go find a gun-club/target-range. On the bulliten board you will find people wanting to perform private sales of guns (no paperwork). You will also find people willing to train you, either for money or for free
To: Malcolm
You do not want a semi auto unless you are willing to spend a lot of time and ammo training on its use. Semi-auto's required learned skills to fire them and mostly to clear jams. So there are a set of drills that you need to be very familiar with if you are going to use a semi-auto for defense. I own many guns, many handguns and lots of them are semi auto but I will not use them for self defense as I have not drilled enough with them to clear a jam, in the dark, with bad guys in the house and adrenealine pumping. I would suggest a 38 special or a 357 revolver. They very seldom jam, all you have to do is pull the trigger. Think very hard about this before you buy. I know that the autoloaders carry more rounds butthat won't mean squat if it jams.

Was already (ahem) prepared. Number = , shall we say, adequate. . . ;-)
To: Malcolm
Buy a Ruger. Made in the US. Very reliable and not as costly as a Sig Sauer. But the main thing is that you own a firearm.
I think the Muslums, including the Black Muslums, are going to start cranking this thing up.
Be prepared!
