Homosexual Activists Gain Political Ground

Homosexual activists won key battles in several American cities on Election Day, but voters in Houston, Tex., decided to prevent the city from offering benefits to the same-sex partners of city employees.

"The message of the vast majority of voters was clear. They resoundingly rebuffed right wing extremists trying to impose their bigotry upon these communities," said National Gay and Lesbian Task Force executive director Lorri L. Jean. "Our community is starting to turn the tide on the religious-based intolerance that has led to these measures."

Referendums dealing with homosexual rights were on the ballot not only in Houston, but also in three Michigan communities, and Miami Beach, Florida. Pro-homosexual groups argued that homosexuals should not lose out on employment or housing because of their sexual orientation. Their opponents said such laws have been used previously, not to address any documented instances of job or housing discrimination, but as a pretext for attacking the Boy Scouts and other groups that do not condone homosexuality.

In Miami Beach, Fla., more than 65 percent of voters agreed the city should provide health care benefits to the domestic partners of city employees. A couple would have to register their relationship with the city to be eligible for the benefits.

Voters in Traverse City and Kalamazoo, Michigan, rejected amendments that would have blocked the local governments from passing laws protecting homosexuals from housing and employment discrimination.

And voters in Huntington Woods, a Detroit suburb, upheld an ordinance adopted earlier this year by the city commission that bans discrimination against homosexuals. That ordinance won 69 percent of the vote.

Despite the Election Day results in Michigan, Gary Glenn, president of the conservative American Family Association of Michigan, said the issue has not been laid to rest.

"This is just the beginning," Glenn promised, adding that there would be other ballot initiative next year in Ypsilanti and perhaps other cities. In fact, voters could face similar referendums next year in more than a dozen cities nationwide.

National pro-homosexual groups outspent conservative pro-family forces by at least two to one in both Traverse City and Kalamazoo, Glenn said.

A chief sponsor of the Traverse City amendment suggested another reason. Voters might have been confused by the wording of the ballot question, Fred Weber told the Detroit Free Press. Some people who wanted to say "no" to homosexual rights might not have understood they needed to vote "yes" on the amendment, he said.

Jorge Mursuli, chair of the homosexual activist group, SaveDade, credited the victory in Miami Beach to "consistent grassroots organizing."

But, Glenn said he hoped Tuesday's results would "be a wakeup call to pro-family individuals and orgs, in Michigan and nationally.

"Hopefully [they] will respond with the same kind of commitment in financing as homosexual activist groups to their loss in Royal Oak, [Michigan]" back in May, Glenn said. In the May vote, voters rejected a pro-homosexual ordinance.

"The so-called gay rights ordinances are inevitably used to discriminate against citizens and organizations who oppose homosexual behavior," said Glenn.

According to Glenn, in Detroit and Ann Arbor this year, the pro-homosexual Triangle Foundation threatened to sue the cities under special protection ordinances unless they cut off all funding to the Boy Scouts, denied the Scouts access to city parks and facilities, and prohibited fire and police departments from sponsoring Scout activities.

Somehow, this doesn't sound too good to me. These people trust government way too much.

First and foremost, I would be one of the 35% voting against. Second, I would be looking for a new place to live. Why should I have to contribute to a deviant lifestyle? Calling it for what it is, an unatural choice of lifestyle? Piss on this. It will cost those taxpayers millions in the long run. And why? All becuase a bunch of homosexuals want to enduldge in an act that is not supported by nature; let alone God, which is what this country is under afterall..

Why would you want to take the handle of Roy Cohn while posting these kinds of things? It certainly arouses the suspicion that you're a closet homosexual who hates homosexuals.

I don't care if they bend over and whistle "God Bless America", they are so desperate to be accepted. Of course they never will be. The issue becomes one of how far they will be tolerated. That is all.

Sorry there Lori, there is no such thing as bigotry upon chosen behavior, pick something new to demagogue. The only extreme is the filth and degradation of perversion.

The queers and fagots creep and creep down the slipery slope. I cannot attribute this, but a homo activitist once said,

You can forget about trying to persuade the masses that homosexuality is a good thing. But if only you can get them to think that it [being a homosexual] is just another thing, with a shrug of their shoulders, then your battle for legal and social rights is virtually won.
Another nail in their AIDS infected coffin as far as I am concerned.

Welcome to Free Republic, Roy. I see you met sakic, one of our longtime pro-homo cheerleaders.

He is using one of the oldest pro-homo cheerleader tactics, suggesting that you must be a homosexual if you are attempting to block their agenda in any way. Yeah, it doesn't make any sense at all, but, then again, these folks have a problem telling an exit from an entrance as well.

Anyway, isn't it nice of him to admit that there is something wrong with homosexuality? How else could he attempt to use it as a smear?

Keep up the good work and keep fighting the GOOD fight!

Are you aware that the real Roy Cohn persecuted homosexuals while he himself was a closet homosexual or did you miss the point as usual?

The day is coming when it will be a federal offense to even speak out against the perversity of homosexuality. Speaking about it will be a hate crime.

I hope I am one of the first ones arrested. I will NEVER STOP SHOUTING FROM THE ROOFTOPS THAT HOMOSEXUALITY IS AN ABOMINATION!

"Our community is starting to turn the tide on the religious-based intolerance that has led to these measures."

This statement says it all as to the focal pouint of the homo strategy. That goal being the destruction of the religious belief system. In many areas they have been successful. But in the end, they will never win.

They are not only gaining political power, they have a long term goal of taking over the public schools through "positive indoctrination programs". The only way to stop them is by intimidation and the threat of media exposure to those who vote to adopt it into the curriculum. We stopped it in Ventura County Ca., but they have already won in Los Angeles. It is up to us....your neighbor wont do it. YOU have to do it !!!!

I know all about Roy Cohn. The only point missed was by you. The point is that you aren't half as clever as you think you are.

As with the homosexual dominated SA in Nazi Germany, there's a wing of macho fags that truly hate the effeminate ones. The Nazis, and folks like Cohn, went after them. Probably just some aspect of Same Sex Attraction Disorder.

That goal being the destruction of the religious belief system.

And it wouldn't take a reasonable man long to realize who is behind the move to destroy Judeo-Christian morality. After all, we seem him doing his best in the first few pages of the Bible.

The problem with the homosexual agenda and their pro-homo supporters of various stripe is that they all serve that Father of Lies, knowingly or unknowingly.

Wow and we thought gun registration was invasive. These people are willing to have government know this about them. What a different mindset they have, but I guess that goes without saying.
