...the president will call on people to volunteer their efforts to help bolster homeland security. Volunteer??? That's what I was paying him to do!

Volunteer opportunities? That's great news. I'm too old to go re-up, and I've been looking for something to do besides go shopping with the wife.

Once again real Americans will stand up to do their duty for the benefit of their fellow citizens and future generations. Tax payments are no substitute for the "Can Do!" American spirit.

"the president will call on people to volunteer their efforts to help bolster homeland security." Awesome! People around here really want to know what they can do to help with the anti-terrorism war effort, and most are already being more observant and doing what they can.

Fleischer would not say what Bush is asking Americans to do, but other administration officials have said the president will call on people to volunteer their efforts to help bolster homeland security.

Hmmmm...one may discern this as being an advocate for states' militias.

I expect our "new responsibilities" to include coughing up more of our money and more of our liberties to the federal government.
I do not expect our "new responsibilities" to include new liberties for self-defense and weapons ownership.
The federal government has utterly, miserably, completely failed in its basic responsibilities to safeguard the borders and defend the homeland. I expect it to continue to do so, while encouraging us to cower within its loving arms. To which, I say "jam it."

**The president will call on people to volunteer their efforts to help bolster homeland security.**
I think this is awesome. For those who are elderly or otherwise unable to join the military, this may be a way we can help in the security effort. I'm willing.

If Bush gets on tonight and recommends that citizens take greater responsibility for their own freedom and suggest they start with purchasing a firearm and learning how to properly use a firearm from a ceritfied instructor, I will take back my invictus.
But it ain't gonna happen.

Volunteer? This might be good. This is what happened during the Civil Defense days of the 1950s. Such a situation gives more power to local governments and to local clubs and organizations. It helps keep the feds off our backs and helps keep them from giving local citizens stupid rules and regulations.

I guess volunteer is a dirty word for Libertarians. How much should we pay people to be a good citizen?

I just read that "Message from Tom Ridge," and I'm not sure all those things he recommends are even LEGAL in Pennsylvania, or any other woods, for that matter.
