Several hundred supporters of the radio personality Neal Boortz have written messages on the Hillary Clinton Forum, and sent emails to me, in an attempt to convince me that they have a constitutional right to freedom of expression to say and do anything they want on the Hillary Clinton Forum. Wrong. Freedom of expression is limited. Yes, limited. For some reason, Boortz supporters don't know that even though Boortz is a lawyer who could enlighten them.
You are not free to shout "fire" in a crowded theater. People will stampede and may get killed. You are not free to phone the manager of a crowded facility and tell him you planted a bomb in his building. You could go to prison for the criminally insane if you do that. You cannot disrupt a meeting: they'll call security and have you hauled off. You cannot expose yourself in public: you will get yourself arrested for indecent exposure. You cannot make unwanted sexual advances.
And you cannot jam my forum with multiple obnoxious text and graphic posts: that's obstructing my business and my forum that I operate at my own expense.
Here's the story: Yesterday morning, November 7th, 2001, I opened the Hillary Clinton Forum, www.hillary.org, as I usually do, to check on the previous night's activity. I was aghast at the outpouring of obscenity, verbal assaults, sexual harassment and sexual threats directed at me personally.
This outrage, perpetrated by Boortz listeners and supporters, was followed by hackers and harassers whose posting of multiple obnoxious images, an especially obscene snake-tongued image of Hillary that linked to the original posted on Boortz' website, jammed the forum several times on November 6 and 7, 2001 with a "denial of service" attack. Each time I removed them I noted that the source of the image was the boortz.com Web site.
When I objected to Mr. Boortz and asked him to take that image off his server to stop the harassment and the destruction of my forum, he taunted me in return. In response to my complaint, Boortz admitted it was harassment but refused to do anything about it. "I will continue to exercise my first amendment rights on my personally owned and maintained website," he said in an email to me. The offending snake-tongue picture continued to be posted multiple times in a "denial of service" attack until the forum jammed. So I appealed to Boortz to delete the offending picture and threatened to sue him if he did not remove it. Boortz retaliated by inspiring his supporters to perpetrate some of the worst atrocities that can be committed on the Internet.
The scum that descended on my forum were inspired by Boortz' sarcastic directives, over the radio and on his website, on November 7th asking to his supporters to "apologize" to me for the altered photo of Hillary Clinton. It seems that they had the express intent of sexually harassing us and obstructing the flow of ideas by posting the obscene picture thousands of times throughout the day.
In addition, hundreds of distressing, obscene emails were sent to me personally. I have saved the emails and some of the obscene posts for our archives. I plan to post each and every email sent to me, with email addresses attached, on a special forum for all the world to see.
However, I am a forgiving person. If the folks who sent me those insulting emails make another attempt to apologize to me sincerely, I will not post their emails nor their email addresses. This apology must be sincere, no sarcasm, insults, lectures or any other gimmick intended to compromise the apology.
To those Boortz supporters who manage to rise above the scum and apologize, you will be welcome on my forum to debate the issues in a respectful way. You will enjoy my forum. I would guess that 90 percent of the regular posters on the Hillary Clinton Forum are from the right. Many have been on the forum for years.
The reason the right wingers love this forum so much is because it is truly open and fairly edited. We are good friends and love each other even though we regularly get into some horrendous fights. Sometimes we love each other enough to refer to the Hillary Clinton Forum as a big family, albeit a dysfunctional one.

It is Boortz's right to post any picture he so chooses on his website. It is anyone elses right to use that picture and post it on Hillary.org (unless otherwise noted by Mr. Boortz). It is also the right of the Editor of Hillary.org to institute whatever procedures she wishes to prevent us from posting pictures, or posting at all on her site. Since she has done neither, and continues to advertise that the site as "Everybody Welcome", then we can still post there, just as she can come and post here.
