(CNSNews.com) - The post-Sept. 11 climate has been good for gun sales and bad for gun control groups.
In a letter to supporters, Sarah Brady of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence says, "Regretfully...we have been forced to make significant cutbacks in our programs, threatening our ability to fight for a safer America."
She said a "forced downsizing and restructuring" has forced the group lay off about 20 percent of its staff. The letter goes on to solicit funds, and it says a generous donor has agreed to partially match contributions received in the next 30 days.
As a further inducement to would-be donors, the Brady Campaign says, "There is compelling evidence that terrorists are stockpiling high-powered weapons and ammunition obtained from unregulated gun markets in this country, such as gun shows."
Gun rights groups scoff at such claims. Press reports on Friday said gun sales are skyrocketing in areas affected by the Sept. 11 attacks.
Oh, what a shame...
My ego: "Alright!"
My id: YEEESSSSSS!!! I HOPE THEY GO UNDER COMPLETELY!!!! WHAT A BUNCH OF JERKS!!!! TERRORISTS AT GUN SHOWS MY A$$!!!!
How much do you want to bet that this mystery donor is the Hollowood 911 Benefit concert?
Terrorists will always be able to find guns illegally, but if Sarah Brady and her cronies have their way no American citizen will be able to defend themselves against them!
They would rather have us sit down and talk about our differences and why they feel they have to kill us. Please!
Signed, PROUD TO BE ARMED AND FEMALE!
Really! Haven't heard about that in the "un-biased" mainstream press! They must be slipping!
Bye Bye Brady. Join Marge Roukema in left-wing retirementland!!
Schadenfreude!
...if it's true...
As well you should have.
While I feel badly for you and your husband after the tragic shooting by the mentally imbalanced John Hinckley, I do not and will not ever support your efforts for gun control. In your grief I believe you have forgotten some important facts regarding the case of your husband's shooting. I for one will not twist the facts like you and your fellow gungrabbers have in the past.
1. John was, is and probably always will be a mentally deficient person.
2. The gun he used was obtained under questionable circumstances and possibly illegally.
3. There is no proof that any of your past efforts have resulted in the prevention of a crime of violence against a person. While you can point to statistics that say that "convicted felons" were denied gun ownership by the on-line check, there is no proof that this prevented any crime.
More people die in the United States everyday due to neglegence of car drivers. IF your goal is to save lives, your time and energy would be spent in drivers education courses.
I would also point out that no guns of any kind were used in any terrorist attack on the United States and your efforts to continue to implement more useless laws are only an organized conspiracy to depeive the citizens of this country of our Constitutional rights. I am hereby putting you and HCI on notice of my intent to bring a federal lawsuit against you for conspiracy, RICO and other violations of the rights of the citizens of the United States with your work.
Cease and decist immediately.
Very Sincerely,
Mad_as_he$$
Oxfam's experience is that small arms are readily available in many parts of the world. In Sudan an AK47 can be bought for the price of a chicken. In Kenya the barter rate of an AK47 has dropped from 10 to 2 cows. In the Philippines machine guns cost around $375 and pistols as little as $15.
Now why would one spend thousands for Class III weapons in America for such things when you can get them in the Sudan for small livestock?
Sudan is closer to Afghanistan than the U.S. is, so you also save on shipping.
:^)
In other words, HCI is largely funded by rich commies. That's what it mathematically means when some rich guy offers to match by half all donations HCI gets in the next month - up to $200,000.
And I don't know what it is, but that little bit about a wealthy contributor just reminds me a little too much of an email I got about a sick girl and a California billionaire.
Before reading this post I actually thought about the "gun show loophole" issue and was struck by the fact (F-A-C-T) that there was no frenzied trading of guns in the aisles at the show I attended (or any other I attended in the past). And I found it hard to imagine the patriotic Americans who attend these shows selling arms to suspect individuals in the aisles.
Could it happen? Sure. But I think it would be the exception. I seriously doubt the Brady folks have ever spent real time at America's gun shows. They would be shocked at how different they are from what they have imagined. (Granting, of course, that they aren't just fabricating illusions to further their agenda.)
