Microsoft Sponsors Racist Web Site
FrontPageMagazine.com | November 9, 2001
By Masej Sikbuslan

THE BLACK WORLD TODAY (TBWT.com) is a racist, anti-Semitic, anti-American web site complete with daily updates and regular columnists. At first glance, the site seems like a regular news site with reports on major events of the day. TBWT even states that "We are adamantly opposed to all forms of discrimination and exploitation based on race, class, ethnicity, sex or religion. Through our work, we hope to contribute to a healing dialogue between people of various races and nationalities."

A closer look reveals a more hateful agenda, however. An October 22, 2001, column by Junious Ricardo Stratton, listed as a TBWT contributor, is titled "Why Is AmeriKKKa Hated?" Mr. Stratton explains:

"In the aftermath of the destruction of the World Trade Center's twin towers and damage to the Pentagon many white folks asked with a straight face, what would make someone do something like this, why are we hated so? And with an equally straight face the media rehearsed response was, "they hate us because of our liberties, they hate us because of our lifestyle and prosperity and they hate us because we are good.

"If these same white folks ventured, say to any of the prisoner of war camps they euphemistically call Indian reservations and asked those confined there by US government fiat and policy, why AmeriKKKans are hated, or they went into one of the barrios or poverty and drug ravaged inner cities and asked the same question, they would be shocked the residents overwhelmingly know why AmeriKKKa is hated all around the globe. In addition they would get a rude awakening of the evil this government does here at home."

Patriotic Americans that they are, the writers at TBWT seem obsessed with rationalizing the terrorist attacks on America and tying them in with alleged mistreatment of blacks. In an October 22, 2001, column, "Acts of Hypocrisy: Why They Hate Us," Rufus G.W. Sanders writes:

"We extol the values of Democratic capitalism, but those values are actually an oxymoron of both language and morality. Because for every group that thrives under the American system of capitalism there is a larger group that suffers injustice at the hands of that same system. Therefore, in reality, what America actually exposes is a double standard. This is the beginning reason why we are hated so much by other nations. It's the economic and social exploitation that we perpetuate while yet preaching democracy and human rights for all that makes us so politically vulnerable. The world wonders openingly, how can America talk about global human rights when we won't even discuss reparations for African-Americans? Of course, bar none, not only is that our greatest shame and sin, but it is also our greatest hypocrisy."

Apparently, Mr. Sanders thinks Arabs and Muslims are seething with rage that blacks (who Arabs still enslave in places like the Sudan and Mauritania) are not being given more handouts for an institution that ended in America almost 140 years ago.

An October 19, 2001, column by Delores Adams (described as a "devout student-teacher of Truth") titled, "Why 'They' Hate Us" explains:

"Despite America's influence worldwide, America maintains a very narrow worldview limited to Western European culture, and aggressively projects these views worldwide. America is the most culturally diverse nation in the world, yet America does not look like America. Though such are normally attractive, dark suits crowned with blonde hair and ivory complexions have become America's family portrait. Major film and television productions, the news media, advertisements, historical textbooks, and so forth all evidence the depressing fact that America is quite colorblind. Thus, Americans of color are continuously left out of the family portrait.

“Moreover, America's citizens are culturally deprived! Owing to America's failure to provide an all-inclusive multicultural program to educate its citizens, the average American knows little or nothing of foreign cultures. Yet, Middle Eastern, Asian, Hispanic, Caribbean, and African cultures also comprise American society. Perhaps this is why many Euro-American news commentators are reflecting such an arrogant and intolerant attitude towards resolving our Middle Eastern conflict peacefully. And why many Americans of color feel like a guest in their own country. So the larger question to ask is, do we love them?"

The site is a sponsor of an upcoming conference called "The State of the Black World Conference," to be held in Atlanta from November 28 - December 2. In lines that could be lifted straight from a Louis Farrakhan speech, the conference description explains:

"In the United States, though the walls of legal segregation have been abolished and we have a multitude of Black faces in elected offices previously occupied by White faces, in the rural areas of the South the vestiges of apartheid remain painfully intact, Black farmers continue to lose land at an alarming rate and the urban ghettos resemble "domestic colonies"—dis-empowered zones of desolation and despair where our people suffer from the ravages of poverty and neglect. While we have more middle class and upward mobile Blacks than at anytime in our history on these hostile shores, neither our growing Black National Income, nor our political potential has translated into real economic and political power for the masses of Black people. Racial profiling, police brutality, tougher sentencing, more prisons and the death penalty are harsh facts of life for the huge numbers of our people in the U.S. The prison-jail industrial complex is being built on the backs of the descendants of enslaved Africans."

It even engages in buffoonish Afrocentric mythology, asking:

"How long will the sons and daughters of the people who gave the world its first glimpse of mathematics, medicine and astronomy, how long will the descendants of those who built the pyramids and presided over flourishing societies for thousands of years prior to the Holocaust of enslavement, how long will it take for people of African descent, Black people to fulfill Garvey's exhortation, "Up you mighty race, you can accomplish what you will."

Convicted cop killer and former Black Panther, Mumia Abu-Jamal, contributes a column to the site. His October 31 piece called "When The Press Presses for War," is a typical "black angels-white devils" depiction of history. He concludes a somewhat confused column by claiming:

"This imperialist training of the press in the 1800s can be seen today in the way the media whitewashes massacres, ignores or distorts history, and demonizes any opponents of the empire."

Apparently, his cold-blooded murder of a white cop does not qualify as a massacre.

Those familiar with black racial activism will recognize these anti-white, anti-American, anti-intellectual statements as routine and perhaps unnewsworthy. However, the site claims to get two million visitors per month. The demographic breakdown listed by the site says that 70 percent of visitors have a college degree, 60 percent own their own home, and the average annual income is $55,000. The black middle class is apparently the biggest consumer of this online hate.

Perhaps more disturbing, every one of these bigoted articles has an advertisement on top of it from one of America's preeminent companies - Microsoft. The flashing banner ad reads:

"All Kinds of People, All Kinds of Projects, One Place" then flashes to a Microsoft logo asking, "Where do you want to go today?" A click on the ad takes a visitor to Microsoft's diversity web site. Indeed, Microsoft was the major financial contributor to opponents of a 1998 civil rights ballot initiative in Washington State that outlawed discrimination in public employment and education.

Somehow the left wing groups that complain about "institutionalized racism" and "corporate fascism" have not sounded the alarm about what is the closest thing to real institutionalized racism and corporate fascism in America today.

This article is posted in hope of not being pulled. This is true that Microsoft sponsors this type of site which does promote racism, and I cannot discern any slanderous or libelous material herein of Microsoft.

These are statements of fact.

Did you think that the money you just dropped on XP helped to keep a site like this alive? Can you imagine what the outcry would be if a major corporation sponsored a site that pilloried Arabs and Muslims even after the 9/11 acts of war?

Yeah, just where do you want to go today?

Oddly, whenever I see the term 'racist' of late, I don't think of any people except Sharptoon or Jackasson or Farrakhan, never the KKK or skinheads anymore!

Then maybe it's time to broaden the perspective of who can be racist, don't ya think?

A little over the top on the title no?

Perhaps, "Microsoft advertises on a little, known, little read racist web site" would be more appropriate.

There are very few African Americans that have the requisite technical skills to work at Microsoft.  Thus, Microsoft, in a valid attempt at diversity, will advertise on sites that meet a specific demographic.  It's unfortunate that there is a market for this type of journalism but that's hardly Microsoft's fault.

I agree with ya'll . . . this is lame.

This is just MS bashing.

(Yes, I *did* just say that!)

And before anyone even says it -- the difference is in the substance of the charges.

Guess what? There are very few AMERICANS (hell, really it should read "there are very few people") that have the requisite technical skills to work at Microsoft. I'm sure you didn't intend this as a racist post, but that's exactly how it came off. Apologies if that wasn't intended. If it was, well...

As to whether the entire site can be labeled as racist. Don't honestly know about that. A quick perusal of their message board seems to strongly indicate that there are a number of racists and race-baiters (black AND white, or African-American and European-American if you prefer), but I'd venture no more than most message boards including FR unfortunately (in spite of the NO racism plea). Either way, race in general is a theme central to most discussions over there, so racism, I suppose, would be a natural byproduct. The Commentaries on the other hand, well, keep in mind that they are generally outside contributors. Having said that tho, the commentaries, yes, do seem to be disproportionately of a Blame/Hate America, kill Whitey variety. Which is unfortunate. I seem to recall reading a very good article there soon after 9/11.

Later...

I guess Miss Adams doesn't get BET on her cable or maybe she has never seen the "Miss Black America Contest".
Perhaps she has never seen Ebony magazine or read all the books black folks write about racism and history. Maybe she needs to go to diversity training like the rest of corporate america.
What an idiot.

I'll back that up 110% from experience.
I spent 3 years in tech support hell dealing with them.
