I arrived at the crime scene at 11:55 under a slightly hazy sky with temperatures in the 60's. Our Commanding Officer, Jim Robinson was already in position holding Old Glory. Two of our regular protesters were present placing signs on the street corner. Osama Pinata was in place mounted on the light pole. I snapped a salute to the CO and then gathered the signs from the trunk of my car. The horns were already sounding from passing motorists.
Over the next 15 minute period, 13 FReepers and concerned citizens had gathered to once again proclaim that "We Have Not Forgotten - Gary Condit's Rotten."
While some of us took position on the corner of 16th and J Streets to solicit support from the heavy traffic on J Street, Jim Robinson, Saundra Duffy, ontherightside, The Real Deal, SiFiPattie, and Lagar took on the task of putting up yellow tape and warning signs if front of Gary Condit's (D-CA) Modesto office. The Crime Scene was now secure. Ontherightside warned the passing motorists of the dangers that were evident at the Crime Scene - the danger being that Gary Condit (D-CA) is still a member of the House of Representatives.
While I was positioned 1/2 block away on J Street, SiFiPattie came running around the corner to get me to come down to the Crime Scene. It seems a member of the Hug-a-Condit crowd was telling the patriots that since this was Veteran's Day weekend, they were not Veterans, they shouldn't be condemning an "upright" congressman like Gary Condit who does so much for veterans. SiFi thought that I should make an appearance since I chose today to honor we Veterans by wearing my Dress Blues to the FReep.
We veterans are men and women of Honor, Character, and Integrity. These three qualities are totally missing from the congressman from California's 18th district. By the time I limped to the Crime Scene, the perp had climbed into his truck to make his get-away. Our "Condit's a Dirt Bag" protester, stood outside his vehicle and chatted for a while with him before he split. Perhaps someone else has details of that conversation.
SiFi again brought their family friend Chris. Chris is a gentleman who happens to be blind. He gladly takes a sign in hand after being told the text and presents the message to the passing public. I once asked him if a blind man can see the truth about Condit. He laughed in agreement. Chris has given us many of our cheers and jeers, and he has a beautiful singing voice with which he leads us with our songs from time to time.
Shortly after 1 pm we moved our operations center one block north to "Five Points." At this location, we have more traffic to present our message. There is also a traffic light so we get a captive audience for a couple of minutes. Today, a "lady" pulled to a stop, rolled down her window and began to give us a piece of her Condit loving mind. Don't let the word get out to the mis-informed, but 1 voice within a vehicle is no match to ten voices proclaiming the truth about Gary Condit. I have no idea what she said, but she heard from us that "Gary Condit's a Dirty Old Man - Send him to the Taliban."
In one of those 'why didn't I say' moments, we should have given her the "Cops Cheer" made famous by the DC Chapter which we have adapted for use in Modesto. We did use the Cops Cheer on a few occassions today to the delight of our captive audience.
For whatever reason, I have been given the duty to write these reports. The rest of the hooligans of Five Points will be along shortly with their input and Jim Rob has some photos taken at the Crime Scene today.
Happy Birthday United States Marine Corps. Salute.
Have a safe Veteran's Day, and do what you can to honor a Vet. Some have never heard the words "Welcome Home" and "Thank You."
Gary Condit
We have you surrounded
Drop the charade
Step away from the intern
Come out with you pants up!
Did anyone get pictures? We need pictures! Especially of you in your dress blues. I'm sure those over at the Canteen would like to see them too. :-)
God Bless you all!!

We can't let Condit get away with this.....
"For whatever reason, I have been given the duty to write these reports." Must be because you do such a great job with the posts. Thanks for another great one! Here's a picture of the Modesto FR Condit Crime Squad at the scene of the crime: "Gary Condit! This is the Free Republic. We have you surrounded. Drop the charade, step away from the intern, and come out with your pants up!" |
Cheers! CC :)
