Good morning Tomkat. I'm sure you must know something about the Iomega Zip Drive. I have mine hooked up and have a floppy of pics from last year. I can't seem to read it.

I don't know if I have it hooked up right. It is lit and when I put the floppy in it lights up where it's supposed to, but can't figure out how to open and read it.

I have it hooked up thru the printer. When I go to read how to copy or backup, something pops up and tells me I don't own an Iomega zip..

there are often conflicts (on the lpt scheme?) when you try
to pass a zip through a printer.

if either of them has a USB option, i'd use that for one or the other.

barring that, first look for the zip drive under 'system' in control panel.

if it's there, uninstall it, and then re-install the zip software.

iomega has a couple tweaks on their site regarding changing
the data format that your printer uses to talk to the pc.
usually involves changing from the current setting to 'raw',
but check their site for info on that.

alternatively, and perhaps the easiest solution, is to go to
your local circuit city or whatever and buy another parallel port.

they're about $20, easily installed, and eliminate the bottleneck...

Oh Val.. that's so soft and pretty.. We had some ground fog this morning, and the sun was coming up in a big red ball.. I didn't get a picture tho.. Had my nightie on, and I knew if I slipped out for one minute a neighbor would drive by..

I loved seeing your pic with Chris and Lynne.

I did bring what I thought was the usb cord for it, how about if I plug that right into the computer box.. I will do all the other things you said tho first.. I think re-installing is a good idea.

Thanks honey, I will check this all out. (smooches)

S T O P ! !

if one of the devices is usb capable, do that first !

your machine should pick it up right away and you won't have to do anything else...

It probably doesn't make any difference, but I was wrong on the connections.. The printer is passing thru the zip drive..

Based on what you said about going to circuit city, if to test this we disconnect the printer from the zip drive, that would leave the zip drive all by itself on the parallel port. Would this be right?

you mean neither one has a usb connection ?

cabling should look like this -- ie, the printer acts as the 'hub'...

[zip]...cable one to...[printer]...cable two to...[pc]

re disconnecting printer: that's correct, but may require
rebooting to be recognized by your machine
