Worst Episode Ever! Simpsons Not Funny!
Broadcast TV ^ | 11/19/01 | Myself

Posted on 11/19/2001 5:49:25 AM PST by gridlock

Please forgive this minor vanity post. I just thought it should be noted the exact time and date that our favorite FReeper show, The Simpsons stopped being funny. That would have been last Sunday, November 11, 2001, at 8:00 PM EST. I gave them a week to redeem themselves, but last night's offering was no improvement. I nominate the November 11, 2001 The Simpsons as "The Worst Episode Ever".

I know this is a vanity, but The Simpsons has been a consistently funny show and a source of some really good political humor directed at the foibles of the left. But it seems to have sunk down into potty humor and more garden variety jibes at the usual right-wing bogeymen. Sad to say, but this show has Jumped the Shark, as they say, and is doomed to oblivion.

I mourn the passing of The Simpsons, and know that many a FReeper will join me.

Hey, at least I didn't post this to Breaking News!

I found last night's show to be quite funny. Methinks you are too critical.

It comes and goes, depending on the writing team. I kind of fell out of it years ago when one season had an especially unfunny lefty writing staff.

It's been going so many years, I'm sure they've gone through dozens of writers.

I may have to agree with you...last season was pretty poor as well. It seems they are missing the irreverance that prior seasons used to success.

I am not a Simpson's purist. I think the Simpson's were at their best the season before last....I hope this is just a lull and not the end.

I can't believe The Simpsons is still on. I thought it was only on in reruns. But then, I literally never watch anything on TV but sports and breaking news.

one quick warning:

Soon the fundie element of Fr will inhabit this thread. They spend most of thier time on FR discrediting the Simpsins/South Park/Harry Potter and it seems Harry Potter threads are getting a bit tedious so I expect them st any minute.

OK, the "Father Give Me Legs" bit was funny.

But did you catch how the obligatory "Itchy and Scratchy" interlude has been replaced with Pro Wrestling?

There just seems to be too much heavy handedness. But, for the record, the "Judge Judy" episode from last week is my nominee for "Worst Episode Ever".

Homer (the bartender) to Maggie: "Hey, I don't care where you go, but you're not sleeping here!"

OK, the Maggie bit was funny, too.

But that's it! Two giggles is not enough!

Oh, come on. If you dish it out you should be able to take it too.

The Simpsons lampoons everything. No one is spared. That's what makes it so funny.

What would you nominate as "The Best Episode Ever"?

My vote goes to the Thomas Edison episode"

Homer:" Introducing the make-up gun. For the working woman who only 3/5ths of a second to get ready."

BLAM

Marge: "Homer, you have it set to whore."

Lisa: "Women aren't going to like being shot in the face"

Homer: "Women will like what I tell them to like...now try to close your nostrils Marge."

Marge ducks and the makeup hits the wall.

Homer:" awwww....now I have to get my cold cream gun."

Oh, I think the right should be able to take a joke. But the problem with The Simpsons is that the critique of the right is now being done with such a heavy hand. It's just not funny. I can take them being on the wrong side of things, but they are just not being funny.

I think the Simpsons has been in decline for a few years now, and it's only going to get worse. For about 9 years, it was probably the funniest thing on TV, though.

Sadly, The Simpsons hasn't been funny since Conan O'Brien stopped producing it back in the mid '90's.

Maybe I'm not thinking of the particular jokes you are thinking of. Can you give us a couple of examples?
