David Horowitz, Best Selling Author and Political Activist, to Speak at the University of Delaware Thursday November 29, 2001
The Young Americans for Freedom invite you to hear author and political activist David Horowitz speak on November 29, 2001. The topic of Mr. Horowitz's lecture is "War and the Hate-America Left." The event will take place in the Rodney Room of Perkins Student Center, from 7-9 pm.
All members of the University community, and the surrounding Newark community are welcome to attend this event. It is cosponsored by the Students in the Public Interest, College Republicans, Students for Sensible Drug Policy, and the Anthropology Club. Please mark your calendars, and come see this provocative speaker for yourselves.
A Biography of David Horowitz
MILLIONS OF PEOPLE first heard of David Horowitz in early 2001, when he infuriated the radical Left with his campaign to place anti-reparations ads in campus newspapers. The ensuing media firestorm raged for months.
Yet Horowitz is no newcomer to the political battlefront. He has been fighting Americas culture wars for decades, first as a Communist revolutionary, now as a conservative author, pundit and activist.
During the 60s and 70s, Horowitz became a leader of the New Left, editing Ramparts magazine and working closely with the Black Panthers. He was a key advisor and confidant of Panther leader Huey Newton.
Later, Horowitz renounced his leftist beliefs, a painful and heart-wrenching odyssey described in his autobiography Radical Son. He went on to become one of the chief engineers of George W. Bushs "compassionate conservative" crusade.
As a columnist for Salon.com and editor-in-chief of FrontPageMagazine.com, Horowitz figures prominently among the ground-breaking cyberjournalists of todays New Media. He is also a Fox News analyst, making frequent appearances on the nations only non-liberal TV network.
Horowitz is President of the Center for the Study of Popular Culture, an organization dedicated to to reclaiming America in the name of freedom

My fellow FReepers, I need your help for this event! The local radical Left is coming en masse to this event. I need some conservatives and libertarians in the audience, so it isn't totally dominated by the oppositon. I showed up to their "protest planning meeting" tonight, and they're planning their typical response: "informing" the public about the "bigoted" nature of Mr. Horowitz, wearing black as a sign of protest, protest signs, etc. If you live within an hour driving distance of Newark, DE, I encourage you to attend. We need all the support that we can get. Thanks in advance. -A message from the President of YAF, University of Delaware

He's going to speaking at Cornell the first week of December. I think it's about the same distance if you're near NYC.

PLEASE give us a complete report on FR of this event. Good luck and stay safe. Peaceniks can be mighty dangerous when riled.

It must have been awful (or perhaps entertaining?) sitting through that meeting! :)

It was entertaining. :) I'm glad some of them had enough sense to vote down some of the ideas they were planning. They wanted complete consensus before doing something. If anyone had a problem, they wouldn't do it. They were planning to turn their backs on him at one point during the speech, but some thought that would be disrespectful, so that idea was scrapped. I'll give them credit for letting me sit in without jumping me, and for being open. They're definitely not the typical campus Leftists.

"...some thought that would be disrespectful..."But defaming the man with the B-word and disrupting his appearance on campus isn't disrespectful? Sending a mob to drown him out is ok, but turning their backs is too over-the-top for them?
Thanks for the news, Pyro. I just sent David an e-contribution.
