Actually, I just bought a new car which has an in-dash CD player. I've never owned a real CD player before (not counting the one in my computer). Heck, I'd still be listening to 8-track tapes if I had my way....
Anyhow, I am taking suggestions on CDs to get. I like Abba, Oingo Boingo, Doobie Brothers, AC/DC, Beatles, Pink Floyd, and some others. I also like classical and heavy metal. I don't like country/western, techno, hip hop or rap.
The floor is open to suggestions...

Go to amazon.com, find some CD you especially like, and then follow the trail of "People who bought X also bought..."

If I could only have one CD, it would be "Brothers In Arms", by
Dire Straits.
I've listened to my copy since I got it in 1986, and I still love the quality. Great driving music!

Anything by the Boston Pops Orchestra would be good...

I don't like country/western . . Try Timeless (I think that's the title), which is by way of being a "tribute" CD to Hank Williams; starts off with Dylan, includes Tom Petty, Beck, and KEITH RICHARDS, and has a breath-taking version of Cold, Cold Heart.
Bowie's Ziggy ("but where were The Spiders?"); Stones' Exile (the greatest single piece of rock in history; all Beethoven; some Wagner; and OF COURSE Them's first release, which features "Mystic Eyes,"(!) "Here Comes the Night,"(!!) and what Frank Zappa called the greatest rock song ever written . .
GLORIA!!!!!!!!!!!!

You like oingo boingo? I have 100's of Oingo Boingo and Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo MP3's.
I'm not a big Rush fan, but their first album rocks hard.

Actually a more recent compilation (
Sultans of Swing - The Very Best of Dire Straits) makes for very good listening whilst driving. It features their excellent "Sultans of Swing" and "On Every Street", etc. Yeah, DS are the kind of band that everyone would like. When you're not sure what to play/listen to, play DS! :)

Skynyrd, all the way, they did a christmas album last year, and if it's still available, it sounds like a keeper.

I love to listen to BOSTON (esp. 1st album - More than a Feeling, Foreplay/Long Time) and JOURNEY - all albums. Also, if you like Christmas music, Mannheim Steamroller is a must.

The company DCC Compact Classics issues gold CD versions of many popular albums that sound MUUUUCH better than the mass produced versions. The gold surface helps but DCC's mastering engineer, Steve Hoffman, does the transfer from the master tapes better than anyone else. Best Buy normally carries DCC but check out their website fir a list of their pop, rock and jazz titles. Highly recommended for the best sounding CD's.
