I came home from church today, checked the score of the Huskies came, and promptly had to take about a 2-hour nap to sleep it off. Sheesh!

I had a good friend who was the youngest of 17 kids, but not all from the same mother...or the same father. His father had 5 kids with his first wife before she died. Then he married again and they had 5 more children and his second wife died. Then this widower with 10 kids has this crazy idea to marry a widow with 5 kids. Then apparently the place seemed kind of empty so they had two of their own and my friend was the last on in the litter.

Growing up he said that they sat at a long table and being the youngest he was seated by his dad. His dad would serve himself first, then serve him the same amount and make him finish his food. My friend weighed around 300 lbs. last year when his heart gave out and he died.

I just finished reading Peggy Noonan's latest article in Friday's Opinion Page, Wall Street Journal, "What have we learned?"

In the article she states how Father Rutler, a Catholic Priest, arrived at the burning Twin Towers and began to give absolution to firemen before these brave warriors rushed into the World Trade Center on Septemebr 11th. Soon these men were lining up in scores, knowing full well what fate they might be faced with, to get absolution or a blessing before running into the buildings.

This just knocked me off my chair.

Just wanted to share. I'm not sure how to post the article, but its worth reading.

Peggy Noonan: What We Have Learned

I overslept this morning and consequently will miss morning church. I am going to try to go to the evening service, which is a contemporary one and not my usual cup of tea, but since I missed this morning it is my only choice. Sigh.

My wife and children are still asleep, so we'll get to a later Mass.

I will share Noonan's story with my children. They are aware how faith will allow them to live their lives with courage.

How can you not be inspired after reading about these wonderful firemen who lived their faith!

I am not going to watch them. Daschle is on Tony Snow's show. I know that I will be enraged by something he says, or by Snow's failure to interview him properly. Much better to read the synopsis on here and do some chores instead!!

Yes, it was a lovely evening of popcorn munching & watching Tombstone...

There were two versions of Tombstone made about the same time.....one with Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, Powers Booth, Dana Delaney, Billy Zane and even Charleton Heston....that's the excellent version.

The other version had Kevin Costner......lame, lame, lame.

I must qualify the movie I watched, in case someone watches it on my recommendation :(

There are bad words in it.......not an overabundance, but certainly a few sprinkled around....which as an adult, I could take or leave.......but wouldn't want children watching this version at all.
...There is one scene that is full of innuendo.....if you know what I mean.

And most of all.....there are about 5 times when someone is not only d***, bur almighty d****......and I truly hate to hear this.....it just makes me wince!!!

So don't watch it on my recommendation.....please.

Other than that, it's a well made movie as far as history, character development and dialog.

Val Kilmer should have won an Academy Award for his portrayal of tubercular Doc Holliday.............most excellent acting.

Again, this movie is strictly for adults!!

I suppose it's possible that a few Talibums might escape from Kunduz, huh?

Here's another good one.
