Human Cloning: Your Response
myself

Posted on 11/26/2001 7:47:56 AM PST by Former Fetus

Dear friends,

Researchers just announced that they have created the first cloned human embryos, which they are saying is "not a human life." I am greatly disturbed by this news.

Very soon, the U.S. Senate will vote on human cloning. I have signed the Petition For Life which calls for a ban on human embryo cloning and am asking you to join me in taking a stand for the unborn by signing as well.

We want to deliver 250,000 petitions to the U.S. Senate as soon as possible.

Please help.

Sorry, I don't know how to make a link. However, you will agree that this is an emergency and will forgive my shortcomings. Please, join us in defense of "the least of these My brothers".

Sorry but I'm all for cloning. There's nothing wrong with twins. Or are you also against twins? Should identical twins be outlawed? Should techniques that split embryos for fertility treatments also be outlawed? Why should I not be allowed to be cloned if I wish?

Cloning has already been invented. It's called inbreeding. Why don't you try it with your siblings?

Agree, there is nothing wrong with twins. What I am against is creating a unique human being for the sole purpose of cannibalizing his or her cells. Talking about the wrongs of slavery, how do you feel about designating a group of human beings that must be killed by law? Because this is how things stand now, people feel it is ok to clone human beings provided they are not allowed to develop and be born. We've gone beyond "allowing" to kill and now we are "demanding" it. Don't you see anything wrong with this picture?

My primary criticism of cloning and fertility techniques is that so many fertilized embryos are destroyed in the process. Simply put, cloning and fertility techniques involve the deliberate killing of human beings.

We should be more informed about cloning. Personally I would like to know more about it. From what I have gathered so far (I'm not done yet) there is more than a single aspect to learn about.

If people with incurable sickness can gain help then perhaps more research should be done to see if it is possible.

This is the way of the world. If God didn't want us to clone, we wouldn't know how.

These aren't the first clones. Debate, even on FR has been spirited, if sparse in the past couple years. But it is legislation time and human cloning will be banned in most of the USA.

The thing is, embryonic stem cells, the ones to be obtained from cloned human embryos, have not proven to work towards helping people with debilitating diseases. On the other hand, non-embryonic stem cells are already being used in clinical trials with great success. These cells can be obtained from sources that otherwise would be discarded, such as umbilical cord blood and placentas, or from sources as plain as fat removed in liposuction. Why would anybody condone killing human beings in order to support a theory that so far has not proven its worth, when better techniques are already available?

You're right. For years I criticized the Catholic church for its opposition to IVF. It wasn't until the stem cell controversy begun, and we were told of the staggering number of frozen embryos stored all over the country, that I understood. I agree, the deliberate killing of innocent human beings is wrong and the Lord will hold us accountable for it unless we actively fight it.

Don't blame God for the sinful things people do. All credit must be layed at Satan's feet. And don't forget that he is not called the great deceiver for no reason!

God also gave us the knowledge to do things like blow up innocent people and give them anthrax--it's just the way of the world .

Just because something can be done doesn't mean that it should be done. I just finished reading 'Humanae Vitae' by Pope Paul VI and am working through 'Why Humanae Vitae Was Right' by Janet Smith right now. The Pope was criticized for speaking out against things like contraception, which he believed was a slippery slope to the disintegration of human culture. It is amazing that something written back in 1968 rings so true today.

Pro-life, natural family planning bump!

I'm against cloning. But I really would like to know more about it. What happens if a person is cloned? I figure the clone will look exactly like that person, but what about his soul? his thoughts? his way of thinking? will that be different? and/or a different person except in looks?

Like I said before I am not done collecting my info and I will keep an open mind until I do. I have heard many opinions but not quite enough facts yet.
