WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. officials on Tuesday accused the Taliban of having funded themselves with drug profits and said Washington hoped to get rid of opium stockpiles in Afghanistan and stop farmers from planting more poppies.
Casteel and other experts participating in a DEA-sponsored symposium on links between drugs and terrorism said the al Qaeda organization and its leader, Saudi-born fugitive Osama bin Laden, also received money from drug trafficking.
