City of West Hollywood declares itself a medical marijuana sanctuary

WEST HOLLYWOOD -- The City Council has declared West Hollywood a "sanctuary" for medical marijuana use.
Copies of its resolution were sent to federal law enforcement officials who continue to conduct raids in California, although the state's voters legalized medicinal marijuana use five years ago.
"Where are the federal government's priorities?" Councilman Jeffrey Prang asked after Monday's passage of the resolution he sponsored. "When faced with bio-terrorist activities across the country, why is the Republican Justice Department focusing its attention on this issue?
The sanctuary resolution is only symbolic, with federal law outlawing marijuana use still superseding state law.
The resolution's adoption follows an Oct. 25 raid in which federal agents shut down a West Hollywood cannabis club. The action was denounced by city officials and a representative of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which handles law enforcement in West Hollywood.
Other federal actions in recent months included raiding a Ventura County garden operated by patients, and seizure of medical records from a Northern California doctor who is a prominent medical marijuana proponent.
The West Hollywood center, which opened in 1996, provides marijuana to patients suffering from AIDS, epilepsy, glaucoma, cancer and other serious illnesses, said center spokesman Scott Imler. To receive the marijuana, patients must be referred by their physicians and undergo a screening process.
Seven other states have followed California's lead in legalizing marijuana for medical use, but under federal law marijuana remains illegal for cultivation, sales and use of any sort.

Talk about lunk-headed city council members... LOL... I got no respect for these whackos. First the Berzerkley people try and kick out a bunch of Japanese children from their meeting (for their offensive nature of being boy and girls scouts), and now the West Hollywood city council tries to push pot...

Talk about lunk-headed city council members... No need to worry Bones, the pot heads(Libertarians) on FR will soon be swarming over this thread, saying how "Constitutional" the West Hollywood council is in their view.
Of course they won't mention that West Hollywood is just as nutty as Berkley, when it comes to being ultra PC.

West Hollywood is a fag city. It was incorporated from an area of Los Angeles County that had remained unincorporated for many years, between the Hollywood district and Beverly Hills. Back in the ‘80s, a group of fags got together and incorporated the area and it became an official town.

Absolutely right. It's right there in the Constitution that the federal goobermint has the right to tell people what to put in their bodies. And regardless of what local folks vote for, the feds need to kick doors in at night wearing ninja suits and force unarmed old folks to lie partially clothed the floor, while the great warriors run around cursing. Heck, they oughta shoot a few just to let 'em know who's boss. Who cares if they're guilty or not?

Uh, I live in Miami and grew up in and near NYC. I have visited Southern California on business and everybody I met in LA and Orange County (Anaheim, Buena Park) was either 1. Liberal 2. Gay 3. An immigrant or 4. a combination of the three.

Banning drugs is neither a wise use of MY tax dollars or constituitional at least with prohibition they passed an amendment. If drugs were legal they would be filling corporate coffers instead of funding Bin Laden.
