Suit: Sexgate spurred Clinton Airstrike

SUIT: SEXGATE SPURRED CLINTON AIRSTRIKE By VINCENT MORRIS MISSILE RAUNCH: President Clinton in 1996 ordered this Sudan pharmaceutical plant destroyed by cruise missiles just to distract the media from Sexgate revelations, the owner charges. - Associated Press

December 6, 2001 -- WASHINGTON - Then-President Clinton was aiming to "restore his popularity" after the Monica Lewinsky sex scandal when he bombed a medicine-making plant in Sudan, according to a lawsuit filed by the plant's owner.

The suit, which seeks $50 million in damages, blasts Clinton's claim that the plant was "associated" with terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden.

Clinton turned the plant - which reportedly made ibuprofen, antibiotics and anti-diarrhea pills - into rubble in 1998 when he ordered cruise-missile strikes in the midst of the Monica investigation.

"There was no factual warrant for the destruction of the plant," says Stephen Brogan, a lawyer representing Salah Idris, who owned the plant and filed the lawsuit.

"Three days before the attack, President Clinton appeared on national television and made certain admissions about his conduct that were personally and politically embarrassing to him and to the first lady," Brogan added.

"By ordering the U.S. military into action to destroy this claimed threat to the American people, President Clinton and his advisers sought to restore his diminished presidential authority and popularity."

Clinton declined comment.

The U.S. government, which is named as the plaintiff, wants a federal judge to dismiss the suit. It was filed last summer but has received little attention.

I swear that I had read that we, the people, had already paid this guy some 20+ million for the damage.

Does anyone else remember this?

Something doesn't make sense here -- the U.S. government must have been named as a defendant, not "the plaintiff."

I have heard these referred to as the Monica missiles and being the "straw that broke the camel's back" having an American President launch an attack to just to get the focus off of his scandals. It is curious that the current anthrax targets are mainly those that gave x42 a free pass his activities(Rat Senate members and liberal press).

The U.S. Government should be the plaintiff in any suit against x42, but I think in this case the government is the defendent.

The gov't is the plaintiff because, it appears, this is a qui tam case -- that is, a case brought on behalf of the government against the malefactor (impotus) to recoup the government's losses caused by the malefactor's wrongful conduct.

I do not disagree that x42 should be sued, but on the other hand, can the family of OBL (alias scumbag) sue the US or x44 for billions after he is obliterated?

I hope the discovery process is well underway before the suit is dismissed.

"Officials said General Shelton objected to attacking the tannery, both because of the potential that missiles might hit civilians and because it was not suspected of being involved in chemical weapons.
Officials recall that the debate was brought to a halt by Berger. The Administration, he said, would rightly be pilloried if the United States did not destroy Al Shifa and bin Laden initiated a chemical attack that could have been pre-empted.
A recommendation was sent to Clinton to attack the Afghan camps, Al Shifa and the tannery.
Later that day General Shelton told his colleagues among the Joint Chiefs about the planned operation, in part to gain their help in convincing the White House to drop the tannery as a target. It was the first time the officers had been told about the pending operation.
After their meeting, General Shelton called the White House to say that the officers shared his opposition to bombing the tannery. Other senior officials began to object, and Berger relayed those concerns to President Clinton on Martha's Vinyard.
At about midnight, Clinton consulted some of his other advisors, and finally ordered that the tannery be removed from the target list at about 2 A.M. "

All from a man who bombed Yugoslavia because the press of his missile technology transfers was making front pages.

One can imagine Serbians who used to live in Kosovo having an absolute field day with lawsuits against the US/NATO.

This calls for an excerpt! From “Citizen Clinton”:

MORRIS: Well tomorrow’s the day.

CLINTON: Any ideas?

MORRIS: Nothing short of military action is gonna knock her testimony off the front pages. Who ya gonna bomb?

CLINTON: I don’t know...Iraq?

MORRIS: Old news. You need some new country.

CLINTON: What about North Korea? I’ve been telling everyone that they aren’t building nukes, even though they are... I could suddenly find out about it!

MORRIS: You’d get a nicer poll jump with a Muslim country.

CLINTON: There’s some abandoned terrorist camps in Afghanistan I could hit...or an aspirin factory in Sudan, we could pretend that it’s linked to Bin Laden.

MORRIS: Better bomb ‘em both, if you want to guarantee that she’s off page one.

CLINTON: Look out below!!

As much as I hate to admit it the U.S. is guilty by proxy. There is no doubt in my mind that this is exactly what Clinton did, therefore how do we deny it. Thanks Slick Willie another Legacy of the Clinton Administration, you deserve to rot in jail you traitorous scumbag.
