FResno FReepers receive thank you from adopted sailor!
US Mail | 27/11/01 | John B.

Posted on 12/06/2001 1:44:26 PM PST by JustAmy

"First, I want to thank your kindness to us all. We received your packages yesterday, and I became very popular with all the stuff..The candy didn't last long. It was very amusing to see all these big rough and tough sailors acting like'kids in a candy store'. I don't know how much you know about me, and why I am here in XXXXXXXX. I assume you know AFVetGal. I work with her sister at XXXXX Middle School. I am in the Naval Reserves, and I got recalled to active duty for a year (I hope less). I work in force protection, which simply means I keep the bad guys out. XXXXX is the Central Command for the Middle East, so we have a very important job. There is terrorist activity in the area, so we have to be careful.
I need to go now. I want to thank you again. If you have any questions, please ask. I will do my best to answer.
Best Wishes.
John
PS Thanks for the spiffy paper."

This is in response to the first packages I sent. A couple of days later, I sent more packages with a letter telling him about our Support the Troops Rally and our Treats for Troops drive. I was in a hurry to get the first packages in the mail because of late mailing, but it would seem it only took 1 week to get there, I did send it priority mail. :-)
I will bring the letter to the Support the Troops Rally tomorrow for all Fresno Freepers. Now, I want to get another package in the mail. Jim says go for it.

You've done a wonderful kindness, Amy.

You and the others at the Canteen all do wonderful things for our servicemen and women.

God bless. : )

AFVetGal sent me the address; it is a friend thru her sister. I hesitate to pass it around without her permission. Why don't you contact her and see if she will give it to you or maybe she has an address for another military person that she will give you.

Due to security concerns, the "Any Servicemember" and "Dear Abby" programs which have been so popular in the past have been discontinued. Now, in order to send mail to deployed troops, you must know the military member it's going to and that person's unit address.

The troops have been instructed to not open mail/packages from persons they don't know. This is in response to the Anthrax threats and to protect our troops from "bad guys" sending stuff which could harm them. Now, I know you and other FReepers would never do that! But, those are the rules in effect.

If you would like to support the troops, you could include something in the package JustAmy is getting together, or you can send something to me and I'll include it in one I'm sending soon. FReepmail me if you are interested, and I'll send you my address, or contact JustAmy.

Another idea is if there is a military base/post near you, contact the Public Affairs Officer. If there are troops deployed from that base you may be able to get the deployed unit address and send something to them. (I used to be a PAO in the Air Force.)

If you want more info on this, I've published DOD news articles on my website PatriotZone.

Thanks for your support!
