Well, my parents and I are coming with our Christmas lists at the last minute, as usual. Does anyone have any great ideas of conservative works....books, videos etc? I want to learn more about conservative thought. NOTE: I am speaking of conservatism that acknowledges natural law. No libertarian books are wanted unless they do not address morality and only focus on the issue of limited government.

I've spent a good bit of my life living and working in the inner city, a place liberals like to use as "proof" for all their theories, from the wickedness of American business to the virtue of government bureaucracy. A book that really got me doubting their theories was Myron Magnet's The Dream and the Nightmare: The Sixties' Legacy to the Underclass. It changed the life of one of my sons as well, and gave him some useful ammunition to use in certain college discussions. I'd urge you to get a copy--preferably from Santa.

    I really liked
Original Intent, by David Barton. Very easy to read, talked about the Constitution and freedom of religion. Also David Limbaugh's
Absolute Power which was sickening but a must-read.
For novels, try Heinlein's older works. Most of them are fairly conservative, as well as being good stories. I recommend Double Star particularly.

I just finished reading America's 30 Years War by Balint Vazonyi. Check out www.founding.org for sample chapters from the book as well as the archive of his nationally syndicated newspaper column. Amazon.com has plenty of reviews on it. Buy it from half.com. I got mine for $8 shipped, not bad for a $25 hardcover in perfect condition. I'm passing my copy onto my parents.
This book should be a wake up call to all those who read it. I heard about it this book here and based on the strong reviews it received I decided to read it. I cannot adequately describe just how an important work I feel this to be.
