Massive bombardments and presence of commandos in the mountains of the east

TORA BORA (Afghanistan), 13 déc (AFP) - the United States Air Force carried out Thursday of the massive bombardments starting from 08h00 local (03h30 GMT) in the Afghan mountain of Meelawa (is), where are cut off from faithful from Oussama Ben Laden, brings back a journalist of the AFP.

In addition, information and testimonys multiplied during last hours on the presence of American and British special forces in this area, known under the name of Tora Bora.

A first plane, a large apparatus with reaction, invisible behind the clouds and which produced a choked noise, released a series of four or five bombs which fell into a throat between two peaks and exploded in grondement of thunder by producing an enormous ball of fire.

These deflagrations lengthily resounded in the White Mountains, refuge of the Al-Qaïda combatants, the group of Ben Laden. These combatants are cut off from the tops.

The bombs fell very close to the line to face, with less than 500 meters of a advanced headquarters of the allied Afghan local forces in the United States and which besieges the foreign Al-Qaïda volunteers.

A plane of the same type carried out three new bombardments in one hour on this zone.

In addition, a group of seven or eight combatants, with the pace very different from the local moujahidine, posément went up Thursday morning a slope in front of the Afghan headquarters.

These men of Western pace carried bags to back and seemed to patrol the slope located in front of the headquarters.

Shootings of light weapons with the blow by blow or gust of two or three -- resounded in the close mountains.

Many testimonys of Afghan moujahidine made state these last days of the presence on the line of face of American and British special forces.

Since a distance of approximately 100 meters, it was not possible to say Thursday morning if these men were American or British, but two combatants Afghan, present on the line of face, ensured that they were British forces.

In the night of Wednesday to Thursday, two large helicopters were heard being posed to two or three kilometers of the mountain of Tora Bora.

The overflights of the United States Air Force continued Thursday with 09h40 local (05h10 GMT).

No information was available per same hour on possible negociations in order to obtain the rendering of the foreign Al-Qaïda volunteers.

Several Afghan combatants met on the line of face declared to the AFP that the forces of the commander Hazrat Ali, one of the three principal hostile local heads with Al-Qaïda, were going to launch on Thursday a terrestrial offensive against the faithful ones of Ben Laden cut off from the tops.

Very precise instructions were given to the local commanders to prevent the journalists from approaching the line of face.

The American massive bombardments intervened after an agreement of rendering of the Al-Qaïda combatants, announced Tuesday by an Afghan local commander, had flown in glares Wednesday.

No faithful of Ben Laden had deposited the weapons Wednesday, contrary to what had been announced the day before by the commander Haji Mohammad Zaman, another head of the Afghan local forces.

The Pakistani press stated Thursday that an ultimatum with Al-Qaïda had been prolonged of Wednesday to Thursday morning, whereas negotiations continued in order to obtain a peaceful rendering of the Al-Qaïda forces.

According to a Pakistani daily newspaper, The Nation, the commander Hazrat Ali offered freedom to the basic Al-Qaïda soldiers in the condition express which they give their heads to the allied Afghan forces to the United States.

The day before, various sources had given a report on a condition posed by the faithful ones of Ben Laden for a rendering, namely the presence of the United Nations and diplomats of their respective countries.

Little wonder why OBL tasked his al-Qaeda lieutenant, Abu Jaffar, to plant that false story in the Christian Science Monitor claiming that he flew the coop to Pakistan.

I think this wins for the most incoherent babelfish of an AFP article...we'll have to review all of these after the war to see which one came out the silliest :-)

Me and my best friend watched ABC news tonight and they showed the big 8 drawn by the B-52 crew to remind them of the surrender...looks like they still prefer the 72 virgins

Babelfish translation notes - My best guesses

"a large apparatus with reaction" = a large airplane with jet engines

"which produced a choked noise" = which moved silently

"a throat between two peaks" = a crevice between two mountains

"in grondement of thunder" = in a thunderous rumble

"These deflagrations lengthily resounded in the White Mountains" = The explosions echoed through the White Mountains

"The bombs fell very close to the line to face" = The bombs fell very close to the frontlines

etc.

The Gettysburg address, translated into French, then from French to German, then from German back to English, by Babelfish:

Seven years our fathers give four points and brought on this continent a new nation, who were planned in the liberty and, which it is dedicated to the suggestion that all men are equal production. Now we are obligated in a large civil war, which tests, if this nation or any nation can carry so planned and so dedicated long time. We are met to the battle of this war on a large field. We came, in order to dedicate a part of this zone as resting terminal for those, which gave here their lives, which could experience this nation. It is quite acceptable and appropriate that we would have to make this. But in a larger sense we cannot dedicate, we can consecrate not, we can this earth not to holy. The men, the courageous life and the dead ones, fought here, have consecrated far over our weak strength to add or take away. The will of the world remembers few note still long time, which we say here, but he can never forget, what her here. It is for us that here work dedicating lives rather not terminated to have that it fought, those here up to now, so much advanced noblement ** time out ** rather for to dedicate here to us around large function which remains for devotion of this last full before us, whom this death causes to honour to carry for devotion to increase this, for which to give measures here to solve highly that this death not to have in useless die that this nation under God a new liberty birth and that person government by person, because nobody not to die earth.
