If it stops raining, more stockings will go out to the USS Roosevelt today.

Good morning everyone. I'm off to get my car worked on. Nothing serious, just an oil change and winter prevention stuff. Gotta get it ready to go pick up the grandkids on either Wednesday or Thursaday. Lots to do. Gotta get kid food, LOL, since they are at that age where they eat all the time, LOL. Be back later, hopefully by noon time. I'm check in with all of you then.

'Morning, all. I'm continuing to eat my way to Christmas with today's potluck lunch at the office. Thankfully, Mr. M and I had been "unvited" to a neighbor's annual open house yesterday (it all has to do with campus politics), so we avoided the unlikely scenario of having eaten nothing but hors d'oeuvre and Christmas cookies for three days running.

Good morning! I'm off to the mall in a little while. My last big gift is a pashmina scarf for my mother. Well, not a real pashmina. . .aren't they pure cashmere and run around $100? I was thinking of a cashmere/silk blend. I've seen them for around $40-$50 online.

Do you know the type I'm looking for? All the fine ladies at the inauguration were wearing them and my mother had on a tacky old brown polyester "cableknit" scarf/headcap combo. Anyway, the scarf I'm looking for has a little knotted fringe on the bottom and comes in all sorts of colors.

HLL, you have good fashion sense. . .what do you think?

Go to TJ MAXX if they have one near you. They have Pashmina or a Pashmina blend for well under $50, usually around $29.99. They have every color imagineable. It's fun to wear a simple black outfit and use your pashmina for color.

Good morning all.

HLL, I have to have 3 strands of pearls restrung as they are quite old (grandmothers), should I request anything in particular or will they know best?

They will know what to do, but make sure you don't pay more than $1 an inch and that they are all hand knotted between each pearl.

Here is a cute column on Christmas, the last part devoted to Christmas lights.

WHITE LIGHTS OR COLORED LIGHTS?

I would like to recommend a fun book to read over the next week. It is 'Skipping Christmas" by John Grisholm. It is an easy read and quite short. The main character is named Luther who is a middle aged tax accountant and very frugal. He adds up the Christmas bills from the previous year and they total $6100. So he talks his wife into SKIPPING CHRISTMAS and going on a cruise for $3000 instead; the problem being the cruise does not leave till 12/25 so the book is about how their December goes with their friends and neighbors. Fairly predictable but still enjoyable and excellent writing and observations by Grisholm.

Costco has pashminas in all colors, very cheap...they're the nice ones that cost over $200 elsewhere.

I'm back. Hey, get on over to Payless shoes. I just bought some cute boots for 10 bucks. They were listed at 20 dollars but rang up at 10 dollars. I guess they are having a sale.

I probably won't be around too much these next two weeks. I will have my grandkids here. Hubby is so excited, (so am I) but I think he's more, LOL. We plan on taking them to Downtown DC to see the Christmas tress, and take in some museums. Plus we are planning the traditional baking of the Christmas cookies, making Tamales, and just plain ole playing hide and seek outside in our own little park, (Back yard.) I'll try to check in with ya all daily. Hope everyone is doing great these days. Today is the busiest post office mailing day. Take care.

If we take some pictures of the Christmas trees in DC, do you want me to post them on the Guild?

May the Lord watch over each and every one during this most sacred of holidays.
Please, Lord, protect and bless our troops so far from home.
May we all abide in His grace and love.

Ok, I'm having a crisis. I fell down last night on our tile floor and I hit face first. Well, I now have a black eye and a very swollen purple lip and, the Christmas party is Wed. Any make up suggestions to cover all of this mess up??? Sheesh, I am soooo graceful. (And no, I wasn't into the egg nog) LOL
