Has anyone else had problems entering the FR yahoo chatroom.Since FR will be down the 27th I want to be able to go there. When I try to enter I get a blank chatroom screen. The tattle tail on the bottom right of my monitor shows no bits being exchanged.

A few weeks ago, I had to rejoin the Free Republic club at Yahoo! Clubs. Make sure that in the upper right hand portion of of the screen, it says you are a member, not a guest.

Heck, with the incredibly fast way these threads develop, I figured this WAS the chatroom! =^)

You haven't installed XP have you (just kidding).
Like he said in post #9...sounds right to me.

Were you logged on???

Yahoo won't let me in but that doesn't surprize me, I have Webtv instead of a real computer. It lets me join & then it says I am not logged in. I have joined under several names & when I try to log in under any of thoes names it tells me that name is already being used or that my password is not correct. Its always something. In other words Yahoo makes me feel like a redheaded step child.

Why don't you try the IRC chat?
Download a good IRC Program:

In the setup add "New Server":
Just use these numbers: 63.171.238.200
Then Logon and type /join free_republic
Give it a try

A few months ago, Monday Night Football was broadcast in Spanish on my televison. I thought it was similar to that experiment they tried several years ago when the entire show ran 'silent'. Come to think of it ... THAT might help the currect crew in the broadcast booth!

No FreeRepublic on the 27th? I don't think I can have that. Weeping, weeping.

Yahoo's Java applets give grief to many computers. The problem could be an out of date Java runtime system on your machine, or too little memory, etc.
Great solution: go to CheetaChat.com and download CheetaChat. It'll let you access Yahoo chatrooms easily, with much smoother operation, and offers a nicer overall chat environment in which to work.

I find that I have to shut off my firewall to get into a Yahoo chat room. You may also have some other Security settings that are too high. Try setting the Internet security level to medium or low.
It's a shame that security has to be compromised to get into certain sites. Too bad they can't design their site with that in mind.
