President George W. Bush and the U.S. Military Commander in Afghanistan, General Tommy Franks brief members of the press about the progress of the military operation in Afghanistan while the president's dog, Spot, stands with them on the Bush family ranch in Crawford, Texas, December 28, 2001. Bush said he had no idea where Osama bin Laden was or even whether he was still alive, but dismissed the Saudi-born militant for being 'on the losing side of a rout.'

Quote of the Day:
"He is not escaping us," Bush said of bin Laden. "I mean, this is a guy who, three months ago, was in control of a country. Now he's maybe in control of a cave. ... We're going to get him running and keep him running, and bring him to justice."

Naw - except for the beret, General Franks is in mufti.
Unwritten rule for generals: Wear civvies if you can get away with it.
If Dubya says it's okay, who's to argue, anyway? He's the CinC!
To: petuniasevan
Well, the jacket is civvy street. But the rest may all be uniform.
I couldn't do that in the military, but hey, I wasn't a high-ranking officer.

Gotta love both their outfits!
Two pretty tough contenders, I'd say.

My favorite quote today was in answer to the reporter who asked about all the press reports saying he had changed after September 11th.
He said, "You'll have to ask my wife." and then went on to say he wasn't one for looking in the mirror alot, only to comb his hair.

For those who are interested, here is the complete transcript of today's press conference:
President, General Franks Discuss War Effort
There are a couple of really good lines...especially the "not looking in the mirror except when I bomb my hair" line.
Small contingent of reporters there...not as many as in August.

That's COMB my hair!!! LOL!
To: Miss Marple

I love Spot! He should write a book like his mother, the well-known author Millie, did! He's certainly had an ear on many important events! :-)
