Often on threads dealing with something to do with the South the term "yankee" is used to describe someone that isnt from the south. Ive always associated it with northeastern liberals in my mind, however I am from Nebraska and I dont consider myself a "yankee" but im not a southerner either. Every single county went for Bush in the election in Nebraska. I just threw this out there to see what you southerners think. I know some of you will think this is a waste of a thread, but hey this is a slow night.

Question: When did Nebraska become a state? If I remember correctly, it was after the "war"......so most Southerners would classify the territories as "West".....
I have always considered the Union states the North....the Confederate states the South....and everything else...the West. (Of course, there were a couple of notable exceptions, like the states that were added during the war.)

Well ,not every Southerner is conservative .There are even Rebel-flag loving liberals out there as strange as that might sound.I am somewhat moderate-conservative libertarian in my views ,but I don't even own a rebel flag and hardly say the word "Yankee".
My wife on the other hand once thought that North Carolinians were "Godless Yankees", until I pulled the history book out on her. Also ,overseas we're all called "Yankees".

All I know is, as a Tennessean, I am proud that we kept Al Gore out of the White House!

I used to shudder when describing myself as born a "Yankee" even though I've been in the South (by the grace of God) for the past 30 years. Then I was told that being from the Dakotas made me a Westerner.
WHOO! That was a close one.

I am a lifetime Southerner and you are a "midwesterner" to me :)
A Yankee is a northerner....a "damn yankee" is a Northerner who moves down south.....LOL
To: Husker24
Well, where I come from anyone born north of Interstate 10 is a Yankee.
To: Husker24
If you believe the War Between The States made this a better country, then you are a DAMNYANKEE
To: Husker24
Oh, and by the way you need to capitalize that.
Southerner.

I just flew back to NC from visiting Dallas. I met a lovely Texas couple there and the man asked me "Where ya from?" I replied "North Carolina". He said "That's in East Texas, ain't it?" LOL

Yankees are people that can't say
ya'll correctly. And around where I live we have D*mn Yankees. You do know the difference between a Yankee and a D*mn Yankee?
Before anyone thinks I am bashing geographically challanged people, my best friend is a D*mn Yankee :)
