My late father’s first duty sataion was the USS Wasp CV-7 (homeport Norfolk VA) until she was later sunk by the Japs in the Pacific during 1942.
Me and my two older brothers’ first sea-going duty station was aboard the USS Independence CV-62 (homeport Norfolk VA) during the early to mid-1970s.
My son was a plank crewman aboard the USS Ronald Reagan CVN-76 (first homeport,Norfolk VA—then San Diego)until 2007.
I suppose my future grandchild will be stationed aboard the USS Sarah Palin CSF-1 (Carrier Star Fighters) homeported at Norfolk VA as well—IF the USN keeps naming carriers only after patriotic presidents, that is. BTW--my baby brother broke the tradition somewhat by becomming a Boomer Bubblehead. But he's a Master Chief now and I couldn't be more proud.
