2004 Open Letter:

Mama Bears Vote Bush

Every person whose stomach dropped watching the footage of September 11th should vote for President Bush. Even mother whose Mama Bear instinct wants to hunt down the murderers who killed those innocent people should vote for President Bush. Every work-at-home parent who makes sacrifices for what is best for their children should vote for President Bush.

I disagree with President Bush on many issues, but there is only one issue that really matters. My children. No one will hurt my children. No one will threaten the lives I provide for my children. I will do everything in my power to prevent it. If the only thing in my power is to vote for the man who has the conviction to do what needs to be done, I will vote for President Bush. That is the one thing I know absolutely I can do, and I find comfort in it.

There are many issues that could be decided in the next four years. But I believe that the American people are so divided on issues such as abortion, stem cell research, and gay marriage, that no final solution will be reached in the next four years. The one thing that absolutely must be achieved is the safety of this country, and thus the safety of my children.

Threats such as Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden must be addressed. Men of such fearsome ideals must be taken from power. Their very existence in a position of power is a threat to my way of life. If they can murder thousands of their own people, or suppress women to the point of subjugation, they must be removed from their influence. The world is connected these days in a wonderful way, and we can share our cultures, lives and ideals freely. But I do not wish to share the horrors of these limited minds.

I don’t need proof of weapons of mass destruction. I just need to see the pictures of the children being removed from mass graves, or the little girls sitting next to their shrouded mothers and begging. My children will never see these things. I refuse to accept the possibility. We are at war, whether we want to be or not. It only takes one aggressor to start a fight. Once the aggression is started you must fight back, or buckle under.

I will not tolerate facilitators and enablers who want to negotiate a little more, or wait for one more resolution. I don’t care how much money anyone made, I don’t care who is allied with whom. I don’t need to wait for others to weigh the cost, to hide their dirty laundry, or to obscure the threat in politics and rumor. Those who threaten my children will be dealt with. And I will vote for the man who is willing to deal with them, President Bush.

War always comes at a price. But the price would be so much higher if we buckled under: The corner store being bombed; buses exploding; hostage situations in our schools; countless acts of terror resulting in innocent lives lost. Our military members know why they are fighting. I have yet to meet a military family who isn’t proud of the efforts of their loved one. If the people doing our dirty work understand it’s necessity, who are we to question it? I sit in my comfortable home in my quiet little town, and say I will defend my children to the death, while others do so for me literally. How can I not vote for the man who sees the need to defend my children as much as I do? I can’t. I know where my priorities lie. I vote Bush.
