ABOUT ME
1. My ancestors settled in the South Carolina low country around 1784 and by the 1840s the area had grown into large farms supported by an assortment of trades people. It has grown rapidly since then and my ancestors added their blood to that spilled to defend our way of life and the sweat necessary to build the area into the thriving communities and resort areas that exist today.
2. First voted for Richard Nixon when he ran against Hubert Humprey. Have supported Republicans for president, except for James E. Carter (a mistake) ever since and have supported mostly Republicans (with some exceptions) for just as long. Have seen the South Carolina Democrat Party evolve from men like L. Mendel Rivers (a true patriot and one of the best friends the military has had) to members that rejoice at a natural disaster threatening to disrupt the Republican Convention.
3. My political leaning are classified somewhere amongst conservative, libertarian, and classic liberal. The current liberals are far removed from any of these ideologies and even considerably to the left of people like Patrick Monihan and Ed. Kotch who were thought of as liberals but were (imo) honorable men.
4. I spent many years doing a small part in the cold war and am a supporter of the military. I believe that the military provides the security for our freedoms, and that freedom is necessary for a prosperous and stable society. I believe that it is hard to wrench freedom from a secure and prosperous individual. That is why (imo) there has been an effort to hamstring our law enforcement and now our military. That is also the reason for the current "financial crisis" and the assault on the free enterprise system ... It is all a concerted effort to make us less secure, less prosperous and therefore less resistant to a loss of our freedom.
SOME FAVORITE QUOTES
“Always do everything you ask of those you command.”
George S. Patton
“A piece of spaghetti or a military unit can only be led from the front end.”
George S. Patton
“The only foundation of a free Constitution, is pure Virtue, and if this cannot be inspired into our People, in a great Measure, than they have it now. They may change their Rulers, and the forms of Government, but they will not obtain a lasting Liberty.”
John Adams, letter to Zabdiel Adams, June 21, 1776
“We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
John Adams, Address to the Military, October 11, 1798
One of the sanest, surest, and most generous joys of life comes from being happy over the good fortune of others.
Archibald Rutledge
You cannot hope to build a better world without improving the individuals. To that end each of us must work for his own improvement, and at the same time share a general responsibility for all humanity, our particular duty being to aid those to whom we think we can be most useful.
Marie Curie
“Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance.”
George Bernard Shaw
