Actually, I don’t think the D’s have it that bad. They own Chicago PD and they own the media.
The 1968 convention violence happened when the media was starting to turn against the Vietnam war. So the coverage of the rioters was relatively sympathetic and the PD got hammered in the press.
That won’t happen in Chicago this year. The PD will make sure the D’s put on a good show and use all necessary force. The media won’t obsess on lines of police with shields and batons, which they did in ‘68.
So there may be violent protests — Hamas will be Hamas. But it won’t have the same effect politically it had in 1968.
