Any doctor who won't return your call on this matter should not be practicing medicine. I would seek another physician as soon as possible and discuss the situation. Short of that you may want to seek legal advice to put pressure on. In any case don't wait to long to do either.
All of the above (good advise that is). Then ask your Dr. if he/she has ever heard of a website called FreeRepublic.com
I am sorry about the poor grammer. A head injury a few years back caused that.
The way this happened was a secretary/tech puncured her finger with a lancet pen (the typer used for diabeties testing) after she was finished miking her finger for the iron test my other daughter picked up the lancet pen and it was covered in dry blood. I showed it to the Dr in the other room and she was speechless. Then the tech said to me why didnt you tell me why did you have to tell the Dr what just happened.
She will need AIDS testing now and again in 6 months ..if she is clear in 6 months then she is ok with HIV
But there is also a risk of hepatitis or other blood born illness..
If this doctor will not assist you with this I would file a complaint with the medical board
Demand that the lancet be kept for testing. I don’t know what kind of testing can be done on it..but ....
I am sure you are furious and scared.
That Dr knows he has a lawsuit coming. Some diseases can take years to develop. He is now responsible for all free followups.
I wonder what can be done legally to find out what kind of diseases the other person has. You wouldn’t have to know identity and that would keep patient confidentiality.
Not....
LOL.
Love this place.
Agree with most of what you said. However people doing business in this manner shouldn’t be ignored so they can do it again. Its not about a lawsuit its about preventing other people from getting sick and dying.
I’ve never heard of something like this outside of a VA hospital.
Don’t worry Jessica. I’m not sure my post would be grammatically perfect if this were my daughter.
Look at the advice from the lawyer above. He is right on.
County Board of Health
State Board of Health
Medical Board in your state
Well, his comment was zapped...
You’re brilliant!
I’m glad you’re on our side.
Are you sure she won’t have a claim if there is no disease?
She is going to have bills and nightmares and financial issues and worry and worry and worry over this inexcusable negligence.
Last I heard, HIV could show up more than 6 months later
She is a good Dr she just hires horrible staff. I have been seeing her since i was 14 and am now 33. I work at a hospital and I spoke with the director of our Lab and he said that there is only a 2 hour window for prophylaxis. We are now past that and she wont return my calls so I can ask her to order the blood testing that my daughter needs to have. As a dr isnt she responsible for this type of thing?? And doesnt she have to report it to someone?
The mods aren’t going to do much. A lot of people have been hitting abuse on this poster (myself included) and nothing ever transpires.

I’m sure it went into the “Sharps” container. It may have been disposed of by now but maybe not.
If they can find the lancet with her daughter’s blood, it will put her mind at ease. Hopefully.
