I appreciate your concern - no parent can be rational or use perfect grammar when his or her child is threatened. Those who are knocking you for that are sad individual lacking tact...or a life.

These things happen - and frequently. Our medical professionals live with this issue constantly. The advice regarding testing and calling the national needle stick hotline is very sound and worth following.

I meant to say you should call another doctor today, not wait until tomorrow, someone you or a friend knows to be good.

I agree with the suggestion to take her to the emergency room. Better to be safe at this point than take a chance.

Keep in mind you won’t have to pay for any of it. The doctor will.

Go stand on his desk and raise hell...it's your kid we're talking about here.

These guys go by "Doc"...not "GOD".

While stationed in Germany, my son was born; upon returning him for his 6-week check up the orderly gave him shots meant for another, older, kid.

I was just an E4 then, and I was raising hell at Lieutenants, Captains, and eventually barged into the Colonel's office demanding something be done. It turned out that the shots were not harmful, but it took all that just to get a Doctor to check it out.

I didn't get into any trouble, they saw a parent defending their child and let it go. Besides, I only had three months to go, so I didn't really care if I got busted or not.

Letters to the IG work really well for problems with the military medical system. Be sure to get copies of records first as they tend to disappear.

I should have sent the letter to my Senator as well.

WTH is wrong with you. Can’t you leave this thread alone. This mother is worried about her child and what she should do.

If it was me I would be in a panic and furious. At least Jessica is trying to remain calm.

First off don’t panic.
Your daughter should see another doctor for testing, possible hep b antibody and vaccine, and the sooner the better. The actual risk of HIV from a needle stick from a KNOWN HIV+ person is only 0.5%. Unless the doc has a very odd patient population your daughters risk of HIV is extremely small. There is also a slightly higher risk of Hep B ( which can be mitigated with the above Hep B antibody and vaccine) and Hep C ( no real treatment option there).

I agree with the legal advice but first:
Was the wound treated immediately with an Alcohol swab?
You also need to periodically check for redness and swelling around the wound.
Keep the area clean until you’ve seen another doctor.
Do Not Panic

First things first, she needs prophylactic antivirals to help forestall HIV and Hepatitis. Next, contact the best Lawyer you can get about getting the responsible party out of medical practice so they`ll not be able to do this to another innocent party.
