Just for the record, I was a child when I saw the film and Henry Fonda has nauseated me ever since.

John Gardner, in one of his books on writing fiction, rips Steinbeck apart. But even Gardner was apparently unaware that “The Grapes of Wrath” is a paint-by-numbers socrealist work - evil capitalists, noble, suffering workers, simpleminded plot, lofty ideals. The book was quickly translated into Russian and published there, as well in the other countries of the Soviet Block, and if memory serves, Steinbeck received something called the Stalin Literature Award for it.

It’s not only going to be remade for the big screen, but also repeated in real life...

Probably going to be a colorized version.

You don’t even like the novel? It’s beautifully written.

film it as Night of the Living Grapes of Wrath and add zombies and I’ll watch it. Otherwise no way.

I saw a short scene while channel-surfing and I was nauseated as well. The Wizard from the Wizard of Oz was talking to some dirty-faced person and telling them how wonderful the work camps were and how there was food and work for all! Unbelievable.

So, since poor whites are no longer the "thesis" of history who will bring the Rewolution (but instead the running dogs and secret masters of All That Is Bad And Reactionary), who will replace the Okies? Blacks? Hispanics? Moslems? Hmmm. Maybe they could use "Native Americans," considering it's Oklahoma.
Although Fonda's "everywhere some cop is beatin' up on a guy" now sounds pretty conservative.
