I’ve thought about you and prayed for you and Ranger. There’s nothing in life that’s like this. Loving dogs is such fun, so warm and surprising. Until it’s time for them to go. But it’s the price of admission to sharing our lives with them.

My dear corgi Pumpkin died in January two years ago. By the end of March I was ready to look for a new friend. But it was so important and valuable to me to wait, to endure the empty quiet without Pumpkin. As you said, we must feel and experience the loss and grieve for them. I miss her still, but have a wonderful and different pal now. A rescue, her name is Dixie (another corgi, I’m a fan!) She’s made her own place in my home and heart.

Thank you for sharing your beloved Ranger with us.

I am sorry. Losing a beloved pet creates a hole in your heart and an empty place in your life. A puppy will not replace Ranger but will cheer you with its antics.

Prayers up ... so many of we freepers have intimate memories of what you’re going through. Ranger is family. But know this, he knew you cared for him as he took station to guard family. May the Peace of God dwell with you, Joe. Ranger has a soul and that part of him is not terminating. He continues alive in his soul, albeit in a different spacetime coordinate system we are presently fashioned to sense with out consciousness. You will see your friend again and the connection will be even more real than now as you say goodbye.

Sorry, Joe, the water in my eyes caused me to err: . He continues alive in his soul, albeit in a different spacetime coordinate system we are not presently fashioned to sense with our consciousness.

Sorry for your loss Joe.

I lost my best friend Blaze July 8th. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about him.

Take your time.

Joe, I didn’t know your Gd or how many pets you’d lot before, and it wasn’t the time, but yes, the time will come when you will want and be ready for NEW toenails on the floor, and a new relationship, totally different, with another beloved pet. It will help.

Nothing to feel guilty about, Joe. In the world of human miscarriages (or even the loss of a born child, something I have no experience with thank Gd), trying again and having a baby doesn’t “replace” the one you lost, but it makes life happier. Because having a baby makes life better. Having a dog makes life better. And it will be different. One day the time will be right.

Tomorrow will be a bit easier than today. Prayers up for you.

I didn’t edit - I meant to say I didn’t know your age, or how many pets you’d lost. Sorry about the typos.

He sure is a beautiful dog. You are doing what’s best for him so he doesn’t suffer. Prayers for you both. I just lost my pitbull last month, it’s hard. Please give him a good scratch behind the ears for me and tell him my Pinky will meet him in doggie heaven.

Beautiful Family Member.
Lost my Big Jack and my Beautiful Honey-Bunny last December and last June, still cry when I think about it (this from a 67 year old Marine).
They were Family, as I am sure your RANGER is.
Just remember, when we have to go, we will get to run through the tall grass again with them again on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.
If there ain’t no DOGS in Heaven I ain’t goin!

I’ve had to go through it several times.
I always hope the look in their eyes is; Daddy, thank you.
Every time it happens I hold them in my arms and all I can think of is how much I love them and I don’t want them to go, I think they know that, (i hope they know).
When my Old Rawlly went in 91 I swore I would never put myself in that position again, it took me 5 years to realize that life without some mangy old hound from the pound that nobody else wanted was just not worth the effort.
Since then there has been BIG JACK, MY HONEY-BUNNY (JACK and HONEY went last December and June, in that order) , and now HEIDI ( plus Billy, Rosy, and Penny, before my MOM died she made me promise that I would give her boys and girls a good home, I have).
My vet thinks I am a crazy man, I heard him tell his assistant that Heidi had won the lottery when I brought her in for her first doctors appointment.
All my boys and girls have been pound puppies and castoffs, even my wife thinks I have a screw lose when it comes to dogs, but I just can’t conceive of life without a dog at my side.
When I die at least I will have known that I gave a bunch of boys and girls a good life.

Of course DOGS have a soul, most of them are better than human souls.
If according to scripture they don’t, I want to go where they go when they die.

PS: It’s your DUTY as a human being to give a good boy or girl a good, loving home.
They don’t get to make the decision, only you can.

You have to bear the loss no matter how great it is; remember there are many out there who just want a loving home to call their own.
There is somebody out there at the pound, who wants desperately to fill the void, the empty space in your heart that was left by your last boy or girl who had to go.
They all DESERVE, and have EARNED a chance to prove that they are good, and worthy to take a place at your side. I was STUPID enough to wait 5 years after my OLD RAWLLY went to the Rainbow Bridge, never again will I try to go through life without a companion at my side who doesn’t care whether I am rich or poor, live in a mansion or on the street, good in human eyes or not.
Their love and honor is absolute, it is something I cannot live without.
