As a practical matter, Hawaii basically had the choice of being taken over by the Americans or the British. If the British had taken over, Hawaii probably would have become a protectorate like one of the Indian princely states or Tonga, since the British would have recognized the continued role of the monarchy. As a matter of history, the first king of Hawaii, Kamehameha I, considered Hawaii to be a protectorate of Great Britain. That is why there is the British Union Jack in the Hawaiian flag.

The biggest part is that native Hawaiians did not reproduce themselves.
Very few native Hawaiians remain.
As European, Japanese, and other immigrated they had big families. Methodist missionaries had large families and their descendants become wealthy landowners
By the time of the annexation of Hawaii, the biggest, most successful ranchers and farmers on the Island were Americans, mostly descendants of European ancestry. They demanded and wanted statehood. The native Hawaiian population had dwindled to a small minority.
I do not know exactly why the native population dwindled.
It may be partly from the Hawaiians being very promiscuous, and venereal disease spreading like wildfire.
One of the Hawaiian Kings got very greedy, and demanded his subjects collect sandalwood for him to sell to China.
As the amount of Sandalwood available dropped native Hawaiians worked to collect it to the exclusion of growing food.
I do not know how many Hawaiians died of European diseases, but in other areas, such as the Americas and Australia, very large percentages died of disease that came with European immigrants.

Patriots are reminded that the congressional record shows that when Rep. John Bingham, the main author of Section 1 of the 14th Amendment (14A), read the express rights in the Bill of Rights as main examples of constitutional rights that 14A applies to the states, he included the 2nd Amendment (2A).
From 14th Amendment:
"Section 1: All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States [emphasis added]; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

So Congress has the 14A power to make peacetime penal laws that discourage renegade governors and other misguided state actors from abridging constitutionally enumerated rights, 2A protections in this example.
In fact the Supreme Court had clarified that 14A is intended to strengthen constitutionally enumerated rights, again, 2A in this example.

The right of suffrage was not necessarily one of the privileges or immunities of citizenship before the adoption of the Fourteenth Amendment, and that amendment does not add to these privileges and immunities. It simply furnishes additional guaranty for the protection of such as the citizen already had [emphasis added].” —Minor v. Happersett, 1874.

Patriots need to elect a new patriot Congress in the 2020 elections that will not only promise to support PDJT's vision for MAGA, now KAG, but will also do the following.
The new patriot Congress also needs to promise to exercise its express 14A power to make punitive laws that discourage state actors from abridging constitutionally enumerated rights.

We do not know how many there were, but as many as 80% of the indigenous populations died of disease they had no resistance to.
The worst part of Red Flag laws is that the penalty for perjury (making a false official statement to police or to a judge) is reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor.
